James Cagney is Brick Davis, an attorney without any clients. Enter a hoodlum wanting Brick to represent another hoodlum, and Brick tosses the bum out, 'cause he's an attorney with scruples see. Brick's pal Eddie comes into the office and proceeds to tell Brick about the exciting life of a G Man, but Brick has his law practice, and he's not interested. Eddie blows some thick dust offa some books stacked on Brick's desk and tells the lawyer that business can't be THAT good. Eddie leaves, but not before giving Brick a G Man application.

Later that evening Eddie is gunned down making an arrest. Could that be an incentive for Brick to join the Dept. Of Justice? Uh-huh! Brick joins, and his boss is Robert "Stony knows that voice anywhere" Armstrong. The 2 G Men, along with some others attempt to clean up the old north midwest (Chicago), and possibly bring in Eddie's killer. Throw in Ann Dvorak and you have a precode shoot-em-up. Well, not exactly.

I didn't check the year on this film, I just threw it in the player and let it rip. I thought it was precode because of a woman in her undies, and a bunch of guys (and a gal) gettin' gunned down, often by tommy guns. But no, if ya look at this thread's title, it clearly has 1935, and that ain't precode. Seems that the studios could throw in a little violence if the star wasn't Little Ceasar, Tom Powers or Tony Camonte. If he was a good guy, like a G Man, well the yout of America wouldn't be dreaming of being a gangster. I guess John Gotti never saw this picture.

The movie was face-paced and lasted an hour and 26 minutes, even with additional footage added from the 40s.

The disc includes a whole bunch o' stufff like...

Warner Night At The Movies (1935).
The Old Grey Mayor with Bob Hope.
A cartoon... Buddy The Gee Man.
How I Play Golf by Bobby Jones No. 11... Practice Shots.
A Warner Bros. 1935 blooper reel.
"G" Men and Devil Dogs Of The Air trailers.
A 20 minute featurette titled "Morality And The Code: A How To Manual".
And a commentary track by Richard Jewel (Don't ask, 'cause I don't know)

How much would you pay for all of that? 3 dollars? Me too, I bought it at Big Lots.

Stony's amusing scene: Cagney is surrounded by 3 thugs and one is holding a gun on him. Another of the thugs grabs Cagney by the face and pushes him into a wall. Justthe way the guy grabbed his face reminded me of a grapefruit and Mae Clark.

Stony's rating: 4.5 Bong Hits Outta 5
