The Monster is not totally blind in F MEETS THE WM, just mostly blind and has trouble focusing. We've all been there on a Friday or Saturday night. The script is available as part of a series of Universal monster movies scripts, and it explains the entire situation, and includes the really, really ridiculous dialog Lugosi mouths as the Monster. You'll see why it was all cut out. |

Lugosi's voice would have fit because "Ghost of Frankenstein" ended with Igor's (Lugosi's) brain in the monster. The idea of an clever, evil mind suddenly gaining that much strength is an intriguing one, but evidently it didn't work out. Sadly, the monster went from being a desperate child trying to understand to a mindless shuffling hulk, much like the Mummy -- another creature who fell on hard times once Karloff left the role. Given the intelligent influence he had on "The Walking Dead" (listen to the commentary), one is tempted to assume Karloff went above and beyond just performing to define those characters. |
