According to Barry Maxwell's latest column over at The Digital Bits, there is release of the Captain America serial coming out in region 2 in early 2010. It will apparently be released in 3 parts, each a single disc containing 5 chapters and they will be released a week apart. Anyone know any more about this and which Region 2 country will it be coming from? Anyone know where you could buy it. Of course, with the dollar diving, it may not be a great time to buy Region 2 stuff. |

England, from a company called "Video International". Never heard of 'em. I ordered all three parts; the cost, including delivery, was $24.10 in U.S. funds. |

Think I'll wait until I can learn more about whether the transfer will be any good. |

Does that mean there isn't a decent transfer of this serial? |

The Serial Squadron sold this years ago, and they did a good job with the transfer (DVD-R). My only complaint was that the opening credits were monkeyed with. |

This is a tough call. I'd jump at it in a heartbeat if I could be sure it's being professionally transferred from 35mm material. But even if it's coming from a 35mm print in the U.K., it's not going to have the crisp look of, say, VCI's Green Hornets -- if only because Republic sent second-generation negatives to Britain. The best you could hope for is something along the lines of VCI's JUNGLE GIRL, which was mastered by Mark Lamberti from a British 35mm reissue print. Back in the '70s, Nostalgia Merchant released CAPTAIN AMERICA on Beta and VHS. Their version was transferred from a 16mm print and looked okay but not great. But Marvel has since reasserted its control over the property, so we're probably never going to get a legit DVD release here in the U.S. I'll be curious to see how this shakes out. |

I wouldn't be surprised to see a quality Cap print pop up around the time of the release of the new Captain America movie. |
