14-year-old Tolly Devlin sees his old man beaten to death by four hoods, and vows revenge. 18 years in various prisons follow as he trails the only one of the four he could identify; once that guy is out of the way and the other three have been identified, Devlin (played as an adult by Cliff Robertson) begins his plan of vengeance from outside the prison, involving the Federal rackets-busters against the three hoods, who are now mob bosses.

Good movie, visually striking and with a clever script by Sam Fuller, who also directed. Dark noir, Robertson (an actor I don't care for) is pretty good, Delores Dorn is a doll as a woman on the lam from the mob, and Robert Emhardt is the Boss of Bosses. Look for lotsa little touches, such as when one guy is being burned alive and Emhardt turns to his stooge and says, "Got a light?"

Part of the new Samuel Fuller set from Sony, and it's a beautifully done restored print and transfer. Just gorgeous.

Glad to hear it's a good DVD -- it was the second Fuller movie I saw and remains a favorite.

Incidentally, I watched Fixed Bayonets last night, TIVOed from Fox movies, and it was an excellent Korean War tale. Fuller's war movies are IMO peerless, especially on TV. His frequent closeups are so dramatic on the small screen.
