I can't find any info in these posts. Before I buy my fifth copy of Metropolis I want to know how much restored footage there is and what kind of shape it's in, not to mention whether it actually helps the movie. Monster Kid is less and less good at that kind of thing. I couldn't care less if "Forry won't be there."

In the Summer of 2002 the family was in New York when they had a showing of METROPOLIS. We had a wonderful afternoon hanging out with The Black Tiger, Ace Drummond, Hi Yo Silver, 39 0 13. We totally enjoyed it, and am looking forward to stealing a blu ray copy of it.

Great news, Jazzy. My friend and I were just speculating last night if it would be Kino and a (hopeful) Blu-Ray release for this.

I guess this will be my excuse to make the transition to Blu Ray. It was another Lang picture that converted me to DVD.

I love the film, but frankly, adding more footage after doing so many times previous starts to get tedious. I usually buy their DVDs but this time I might go to Netflix. After spending more than $60 in the past, I can't see spending more money on the same film.

I share your pain, but my God, it's the Holy Grail. London After Midnight is a grain of sand compared to this.

My question is: was this new 30 minutes of footage in the original release or was it excised by Lang for pacing reasons?

From what I have read, BT, this 30 minutes was in the film's premiere. It may have been cut out later.

That's right, Bat. The film lost money on initial release and the studio tightened it up so it could play more shows per day. As you have no doubt noticed, there are continuity problems as a result, and it's hard to believe Lang had a hand in cutting the short version. The long version is Lang's original vision and is a must-have since he was certainly one of the world's great directors at that point, the only great director to make serial-type movies until Spielberg came down the pike decades later.
