The restored version was on German TV yesterday, so its out there. Sometimes the missing footage is a short (1 or 2 seconds) clip and other times its entire scenes.

Very cool to finally see this. The first time i saw this was Moroder version at a theater in about 1984 and was not all that impressed. Seen the previous "restored" version and now this one. There is still a small bit that missing - I think 8 minutes worth or so according to some web sites. Maybe someday?

The long version is Lang's original vision and is a must-have since he was certainly one of the world's great directors

Agreed, Mr P, hence we'll both be there on release day, if not first in line, near it.

This is not so much an If as a When. I knew I had to get Hobson's Choice, but with a sticker price of $34 I held out till Barnes & Noble had a Criterion sale.

Much of the ~30 mins of previously missing footage involves either "the thin man" or the flood sequence.

There is now about 10 minutes more footage of the flood that doesn't change the story any. Water water and more water, endless shots of frightened children getting soaked, running around terrified, and scrambling up a flight of stairs.

It's being billed as "The Complete Metropolis". Looks like the film will play select theaters AND get a Blu-Ray release. I want to participate in both!

The Complete Metropolis!

The film will play LA on April 25th.

Now we can only hope it's actually good at that length. Finally saw the fabled John Barrymore version of Sherlock Holmes, and aside from a surprise appearance by William Powell it was depressingly bland.

For me, Cliff, METROPOLIS is a great movie, so the additional footage shouldn't detract, but enhance my viewing experience.

If you're talking about German silents, too long is a given. I expect to nap through some of the complete Metropolis, but I still want it. I've never been able to stay awake all the way through Siegfried, but in ten minute stretches, watched on the computer, it's fascinating. That's really the best way to watch all silent movies at home. Sitting close to the screen, you catch the little details.
