For those of you with a multi-region DVD or Blu-Ray player (possibly not needed if the discs turn out to be region-free), there is an alternative to the upcoming Kino release. Slightly different extras and packaging. The price (list is 25 Brit pounds for the Blu-Ray) will be approximately the same as the Kino set. I don't know which way to go myself.

Packaging is not my biggest concern, though they look nice.

What I would like to know is what extras does this alternative set have that the Kino won't? And vice-versa.

According to the information posted at The Digital Bits, it looks like the Kino won't have the audio commentaries but will have a documentary interview with the people who discovered the missing footage. There may be other differences that will come out as the release date approaches.

Man, I hate when two different companies release a title at the same time, with different extras, especially when there are desirable extras in both sets.

I really don't want to double-dip.

Be sure to check out the trailer on this link. Even in the tiny window it looks just awesome. Will have to have this one in Blu-Ray for sure.

The Classics dealie in this country is so improved I have decided to avoid PAL DVD altogether. What matters is to support restoration here. European pictures? Fuggetaboutit!

I just checked out Deep Discount DVDs and saw that METROPOLIS will be soon available, but didn't see any mention of Blu-ray version.

They don't seem to have the Blu-Ray version listed yet. Amazon certainly does. Kino announced them simultaneously.

I ordered two copies of the Blu-ray METROPOLIS yesterday. It has to be about the most awesome movie ever made.
