TCM is showing the restored Metropolis this Nov.

Yes, but it won't be in Blu. :D ;)

Some people have TCM HD on their cable systems so it won't be too far off Blu-Ray quality.

BTW, the release dates for the DVD/Blu-Ray has changed. The original date was 11/16. It has been moved out one week to 11/23. The release date in the UK appears to be one day earlier (11/22). The earlier indication that the date would be moved to December appears to be erroneous.

Excellent review covering all essential information. I'm sad to learn that the Alloy Orchestra performance won't be on this Blu-Ray, which means that I'll be buying yet another Metropolis one day (it'll be my fourth). Metropolis is Kino's cash cow -- by a mile it's the best-selling silent film on home video -- and the company needs to repackage it every so often to stay afloat. I want Kino to survive, but there will come a day when I can't be induced to buy another Metropolis.

Come on, Mr P, Kino needs to save something for the Ultimate Edition Blu-Ray, a few years from now.

And you will stop buying editions of METROPOLIS when they finally have discovered a complete, mint 35mm print and release that.

Until then, you and me are here for the ride. ;) :D

I think a lot of people will be along for that ride, including me.

Kino by the way is part of the larger Lorber organization and don't need Metropolis releases to keep afloat.

If you think Kino doesn't need to make money in this market, think again, Jazzy. The market for silent films is so tight that certain sellers aren't paying royalties owed to their providers. In short, the fact that a specialty operation belongs to a larger company does not mean it doesn't have to show a profit as a division.

Kino releases a lot more than just silent films though. They also do new films to art theaters and release a lot of other material on DVD/Blu-Ray. They have a presence in Europe as well. I didn't say releasing Metropolis isn't important but it isn't the only thing that keeps them afloat either. They are a much bigger operation than something like Flicker Alley, for instance.
