Time=money=no Fu. It's not an alibi exactly -- more like a practical matter. Eric often announces something prior to investigation, so you can fault him there, Todd. Incidentally regular old 16mm film shrinks too. The newer safety film supposedly doesn't, but time will tell. The way film is stored affects all this; for instance, leaving film on your back porch in all weathers, as Eric did (against all advice including mine) with the original print of The Masked Rider, can cause or worsen shrinkage. |

Seems Grood has come up with a way to circumvent copyrighted material. Whether this is actually kosher, I'll leave to the legal minds who visit here: "Copies of the following serials are available to the public from this archive for purposes of research or study. By ordering one of these DVDs you agree that this is your purpose in requesting a copy. In accordance with current copyright law, no serials will be listed here if less than 75 years old or if made available as a commercial release by the rightsholder (if any)." Two additions to this category include THE LOST SPECIAL (1932) & THE VANISHING SHADOW (1934). I really enjoyed the latter when he put it out on VCR a few years ago. |

You all excoriate Grood, yet you seem to hang on his every word. Someone will have to explain. I will not do business with him again. |

Your fallacy is in using the word "all." I thought his new gambit to defeat the current copyright laws (which I DO believe are unfair to the general public) was interesting & deserved discussion! |

I beg your pardon. By all means, if you have a thesis to present, let's hear it. |

There's no "pardon" to be begged.... & no thesis to present. Look, I realize Grood's name stirs intense hostility in those of you who have had bad business dealings with him.... & I'm sympathetic. However, when he does something newsworthy, I don't think it should be ignored!! |

I too checked out the new titles available from the Serial Squadron. They all look rather interesting. I for one will order a couple titles. I have no beef with Dr. Grood. |

I ordered 3 myself. Despite whatever failings Grood might have, he does good work and has never ripped me off. Until that changes, I'll continue to do business with him. |

There's no point, I find, in trying to warn people about Grood. It's like putting a wet paint sign on a park bench. I guess it's just human nature to assume we got burned because we didn't know what we were doing, but surely this recent disclaimer should tell you folks that something funny is going on. I'm with Frank; I just don't do business with the guy. |

He's lied, and he's stolen money. I don't care that he's a prick, that's his problem and I don't live with the guy. But business dealings with him, I got ripped off, and it won't happen again. He's a liar and a thief. Sending money to him for a product, you're going to get the product, probably, if it's not a "pre-order" or "pledge drive", and his quality has been good on assorted titles. But he's a liar and a thief, and you should know that about him when you deal with him. |

Heejshi foof (as Unca Captain used to say)…….. It seems every time I post something to get a discussion going, if a discussion does commence, it’s on an entirely different subject. My original post was NOT an attempt to revive the old “Good is a crook” harangue…. which has been going on far too long to be interesting any more. What I wanted to discuss was his approach to the copyright laws. As you’re probably aware, I’m VERY opposed to the current copyright legislation. I thought the previous 75 year rule was eminently fair. If it had been amended to give the original creators protection after 75 years, IF they were still alive, that woulda been fine with me, but NOT what they’ve currently constructed. I’m aware that films are not like music or even literature & perhaps they should be viewed differently. But, I definitely feel that films, after a certain age, that are not made available to the public by their owners, should have provisions that would allow others to make them available. Mort cautiously steps down from his soapbox, narrowly missing a suspiciously placed banana peel. |

Oh, well, the "public domain" means the public owns it, and if Congress has shown anything, it's that it can steal from the public. So what's your question? |
