I cannot attest to the quality of the story or film in general however the trailer is a great throwback to the universal days of horror......Ron Chaney (Lon's Grandson) stars....seems like it may be fun....check out the trailer at the official website hereHouse of the Wolfman

As a werewolf fan, your post got my interest, Inspector. But, a quick perusal of IMDb's user comments for the title has me saying "thanks, but no thanks".

Several people give the film-makers props for trying, but generally found the acting hammy and over-the-top, the screen time for the monsters sparse, Ron Chaney unnecessary and actually a detraction (apparentely he can't act, I've never seen him try) and the story rushed with a confusing ending.

I'm still curious, but I won't be placing an Amazon order any time soon.

I usually rent a new movie from NETFLIX before I buy. Other people's recommendations only work when I know and trust the person. IMDb is full of goofs; spend an afternoon on their Classics board and see what I mean. Somebody's always posting to say he doesn't see what's so great about Citizen Kane, The Rules of the Game, or what have you.

I recently broke my own rule and bought Dark and Stormy Night sight unseen. The Blamire touch allows for a few good laughs -- he hits the perfect deadpan note with his own character, but some of the other actors don't get it right, at least for me. No Lost Skeleton, this one.

Too true, Mr P. The reviews I read for this flick seemed reasonable and measured, I try to avoid listening to the ranters.

Being a big werewolf/Lon Chaney fan, I was excited when the Inspector posted about this film, but it has been dampened somewhat.

Yep, Basil Rathbone & Nigel Bruce in the London fog, Hollywood fog, not really fog - wonder what it was? :D

I guess - ever bin in a theatre where fog wafts over the edge of the stage?

They perfume it with something - nice vapors! :D

Does Ron Chaney remind anyone of Dr. No (Joseph Wiseman)? :D

Well, I didn't like it as much as Lost Skeleton either, but it's a different kind of film, an out-and-out spoof, not an homage. I began laughing during the delirious familiar opening credits (the characters stand there, eyes nervously shifting side to side) and didn't stop until "The End" came onscreen. I immediately scheduled it for our FNF finale this week. Loved it. When was the last time you saw wisecracking patter in a movie???

Am I the only balconeer who got through this?
Suffering from killer jet-lag after my trip to Japan it took me three tries to get through it.
The acting is in some cases junior high school bad- and the script doesn't help the actors who have some talent.

The Hans Salter type score is pretty good, I wish there was more of it, and there's WAY too much non-monster stuff but when you finally get to it there is a lot of fun. Its like going through a big tub of yogurt to get to the fruity stuff-- a little bit of suffering but it makes the good stuff better.

I liked the Tor Johnson like butler and the dorky kid who kept doing the Cary Grant Arsenic and Old Lace Curly shuffle whine.

The old witch was very solid but the stars are Dracula, the Monster and the Wolfman-- the fight scene is what Frankenstein Meet's the Wolfman should have been.

Ron Chaney makes Ed Wood's leading men look like Sir Lawrence Olivier by comparison, but I think it's more the way he was directed vs his ability.

Overall-- I'd recommend it with the condition that you forge ahead to the ending and not give up.
A fun effort which was better than VAN HELSING in this Balconeer's opinion, well worth the $15 this'll set you back on Amazon.
