BTW, Penny Marshall did direct one great movie: Big. I can't comment on her other stuff because I haven't seen it. Ron Howard did Apollo 13 and Cocoon, which are good enough for me.

Ron Howard did Apollo 13 and Cocoon, which are good enough for me.

Though those are both fine movies (haven't seen 'em in 20 years), Ron Howard also did the following misfires:

2009 Angels & Demons

2006 The Da Vinci Code

2001 A Beautiful Mind

2000 How the Grinch Stole Christmas

1992 Far and Away

1988 Willow

But, he also did PARENTHOOD, which I just love.

The thing about those pictures you list, Bats, is that they were all surefire stuff wrecked by lackadaisical direction. Now I saw Ronny Howard steal scenes in The Music Man, and the thing about his career is, it's been a charmed life -- one smash hit after another. No wonder he doesn't try hard. He just signs on for presold product and then phones it in. Why wouldn't he? He has none of the demons a real artist has to deal with, and he sure as hell doesn't need money.

But, in fairness, he was also involved in Arrested Development, probably one of three most brilliant TV programs of the last 30 years.

Thanks, Rodney. I didn't know about it, but I'll check it out.

Since I'm leaving this site in the near future, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the dozens of cool things you've turned me on to.

He was an executive producer, so he was smart to jump on board, but he didn't write any of AD.

Hey Batman....I know this is perhaps the wrong place to ask, but did you ever get round to watching the Thriller episodes? I always like to learn your views. B)

Arrrgh, Outie, I was hoping no one had noticed I keep forgetting to start that set. I promise my Christmas break will be a THRILLER!

(and I'll tell ya all about it in the Thriller thread)
