I was kinda surprised to see that nobody has written about this. I have seen it 4 or 5 times now, so I'll take the plunge.

Andy is 17 now, and his toys don't get played with much. Looking for friendship, Buzz, Jesse, the Potato Heads, Barbie, the space alien guys, Slinky Dog, Bullseye, and Hamm head off to the Sunnyside Daycare Center, where the toys are ruled with an iron fist by Lotso Hugs, a big bear that channels the evil overseer from Cool Hand Luke. Woody, who had elected to stay and take his chances with Andy, swoops in to try 'n' rescue his pals.

I think this is easily Pixar's best film, and should be nominated for Best Picture as well as Best Animated Feature. It's made me cry every time I've watched it. Just sayin'. A wonderful movie.

It was, like all the Pixars to date, beautifully done and a jim-dandy entertainment. The only tiny thing is that these old friends were exactly that: old friends. And while there was real feeling, we've already seen it on a smaller scale with Jessie's heartbreaking song in Toy Story 2. In fact, the fear of inevitable abandonment runs all the way back to the first film, where semi-antique Woody sees Buzz as his replacement.

We've been spoiled to expect strange new worlds with intriguing new characters, like the crusty old man of Up or the inquisitive robot of Wall-E.

That said, Toy Story 3 is probably the best third movie in ANY series, edging Back to the Future 3 (which combined a new setting with an unexpected twist: wacko Christopher Lloyd as romantic lead).

What does this say about Hollywood?

It says that most movie ideas don't have enough substance to sustain repeated sequels.

I took my 28 year old daughter to see Toy Story 3 in 3-D back in June. And well . . . since Ol' Gravy has admitted to it . . . I also have to admit, I got tears in my eyes at the end of the movie.
Again - agreeing with the ol' Gravy Train: Toy Story 3 is my pick for the best picture of the year - not just the best animated pic of the year!
By the way - I saw no reason at all to pay the extra to view this in 3-D.

I do need to this one sometime. I enjoyed Toy Story 1 and 2, especially 2.

I think you could argue that the Hopalong Cassidys improved over the first half dozen or so.

Didn’t care for the first Toy Story, so I didn’t see the sequels, but it sounds like I should.

You have, however, reminded me of a cartoon in The New Yorker: Mr. Potato Head is staring morosely into his drink at a bar and telling the guy next to him: “My wife left me for Mr. Peanut.” (Well, *I* thought if was funny.)

Happy movie watching to everyone in the New Year.

Happy New Year to everybody too. Yeah, Goldfinger was indeed the third Bond flick. Exactly my point.

Well, I consider James Bond a series as opposed to one film with many sequels. Personally, I don't think GF was the best one. I find Doctor No the best of the lot followed by From Russia With Love.

I finally saw this one on HBO, or one of those movie channels and took a look at it, since I enjoyed the other two. I thought Toy Story 3 was about equal to Toy Story 1 & 2. The thing that jumped out at me was that the humans looked just like the toys. I'm not sure how you'd do animations to make them look different from one another, but I never noticed that in the other two films. Perhaps simply a coincidence.

I personally enjoyed this film a great deal.....what surprised me and what worked very well is that had some rather dark moments.....actually bordering on creepy.....but then again i have macabre tastes.......lol

The gang is back for a direct-to-TV special, Toy Story of Terror, aired Halloween 2013 and just released on BD and DVD. Now the property of little Bonnie (how come there's never a daddy in these shows?), the toys are heading out on vacation when Mommy has a flat tire and has to stay in a roadside motel. No, no Norman Bates here - but something is snagging up the toys and poor Jesse, frightened out of her wits, soon stands alone against... well, something.

The first half, with the gang watching a B&W vampire movie on TV and then disappearing one by one in the motel is excellent and a great deal of fun; the second half is a tired retread of Toy Story 2 and not so good, despite the debut of Carl Weathers as Combat Carl. However, the Blu-ray includes three "commercials" featuring new Toy Story characters and fashioned after commercials of the '60s and '70s, and they're wonderful, and three new short cartoons, and they're terrific, particularly Buzz and Woody trying to set up a romantic situation so that Ken will finally give Barbie her first kiss. The disc (less than ten bucks) is worth it for the bonus material.

As I recall Harlan Ellison hated the first two Back To the Future movies and thought that the third was so good as to redeem the first two. Not that I agree or disagree; just sayin'.
