It is also a likely bet that the VHS tape is the source material for many of the DVDs out there.

If you guys could hold off on this for a couple of weeks I'll have some free time then. Right now the film festival has me tied up in knots.

It has been almost two months since we finished TIM TYLER'S LUCK. Is anyone up to starting DAREDEVILS OF THE RED CIRCLE?

Sub-trivial: In 1972 Tim Tyler had a cameo in "The Man Who Hated Laughter." This was an episode of ABC's Saturday Superstar Movie, a random assortment of one-hour cartoons by various producers.

This one, produced by King Features, sort of starred Popeye and featured as many King Features properties as they could cram in. It was generally a notch below the cheap Popeye TV cartoons of the 60s, with poorly animated comic characters interacting in poorly written gags (Spark Plug eats a bass fiddle and plays it while Olive Oyl sings). Between comic bits they had a crack team of adventure heroes searching for them, leading to fleeting cutaways of Flash Gordon, Mandrake and others being "seriously" heroic.

All in all, it's not as good as I've made it sound.

Anyway, the funny characters are trapped in a cave when help arrives: "Look! It's the Phantom and Tim Tyler's Luck!" Both characters smile and wave. And that was evidently the end of Tim Tyler's film career.

Anyone curious to see this, it's on YouTube:
