From the Warner Home Video chat
Interlaced is the format used in most TVs. You actually only scan half the lines in an image then in a second pass you scan between the lines of the image. In progressive scan you scan all the lines in a single pass. Interlaced images are not as clear and can produce flicker in the image. You would only notice a difference in the DVD if you have a DVD player and TV supports progressive scan. I'd recommend getting the corrected disc any way as most new DVD plays support progressive scan and your next TV likely will. |

My thanks, too Marlin. It seems it would be worth the effort to get the replacement discs. |

Thats wonderful, as I have some on VHS, but they are starting to fade. I hope that they are uncut, and complete. |

This is huge news, as we shouldn't forget that Popeye cartoons were never released on VHS aside from a few dupey PD titles. |

Our pals at Cartoon Brew have a list up of the bonus material on the upcoming POPEYE set. I'm tellin' ya, folks, I don't think I've ever been as jazzed for a DVD release as I am for this one. http://www.cartoonbrew.com/classic/popeye-...bonus-materials |

It's going to be a great summer for cartoons! I'm looking forward to the Lantz set more as I enjoy those shorts more than the Fleischers, but damn, those extras can't be beat. |

thadk, do you know what the contents of the Lantz set are (or where I could find them)?? I would love to have some of those musical cartoons he produced in the early 40's. Most of them seemed to be penned by Don Raye (who I think was a staff songwriter at Universal at the time). I'm sure they're all terribly politcially INcorrect at this point, but the music... I'm particularly interested in the one that featured pianist Bob Zurke!!! |

Yesterday, a trip to Costco netted me the Popeye set, which they'd put out a week early, on accident. Unfortunately, I was stopped at the checkout line by the computer, which advised them of their error. No matter how much I begged, pleaded, cajoled, and threatened, they wouldn't sell me the damn thing, and they went and took all the copies on display and put 'em away. Rats. That said, the box felt great and it has a relief-type outline of Popeye and I am sure it's going to look nice on my mantle. I DID get the Woody Woodpecker set. Anybody want to recommend which cartoons are really, really good on this set? |

Incidentally, I've just been advised that the Popeye collection will be available at Best Buy for $45 in a special collectible tin. So there ya go. |
