I've now completed and totally enjoyed the Popeye dvd set. Some comments: All the Popeye cartoons look fabulous! The color Sindbad and Ali Baba 2 reelers are simply knockouts! And everytime the tabletop 3-D is included I just marvel at the time and detail put into this and the unbeliveable results! All the dvd's special features are top-notch and well done, expecially the 43 minute history of Popeye and the one on the music in the Popeye's. Wish some of them were longer tho. No trouble encountered accessing any part of any dvd. Previews included on disc 4 include the Looney Tunes Golden Collection 5. The comments on selected cartoons are good except the ones where that woman, Kali Fontecchio, and 2 of her cronies blither their "intelligence." They act like they're in junior high all the while making stupid jokes back and forth to crack each other up. But SHE is especially annoying -- I would love to take her hunting! I don't think I'll be the only one down on these particular commentors. What a sad waste to have this drivel on such a classic box set. And then would'nt you know it? These dorks do the comments on my all time favorite caroon in the world: Popeye Meets Sindbad! Aahhhhhhh!! Our in-house cartoon expert/historian/collectors Thad or Rodney could easily have done a better job. |

John Krisfaluci is whom you're referring to. Kori is his girlfriend. He's a know-it-all ass. Eddie seems to know what he's talking about on his blog, but he's too influenced by John. I'm pleased with the set. These appear to be the same restorations that Cartoon Network aired awhile back on The Popeye Show, which means that they're not quite done the same way we've been led to believe, but overall, I'm very happy. |

Great set, but I wish we weren't deceived. I'd have gladly bought the set with AAP titled copies. I just don't like being lied to. The commentaries for the most part suck. I particularly hate John's, if I wanted to hear that sort of stuff I'd just record me and my roommates on the couch watching cartoons. It's funny hearing John saying how much he adores the Fleischers when Bob Jaques told me the other day in San Diego that John could barely stand Popeye not too long ago (and "F--k Betty Boop"). |

From TVShowsonDVD.com: After the huge success this past July with Warner's 4-DVD release of Popeye the Sailor - Volume 1: 1933-1938, fans have often asked us when we'll see more! Well, Warner Home Video isn't saying, but as you know...we've got spies everywhere! A couple of our retail friends gave us the heads-up that they are hearing about a Mid-June, 2008 release timeframe for Popeye the Sailor - Volume 2: 1938-1943. Now, that is obviously VERY early info, and subject to change. But it makes sense that this would end up on a similar annual schedule as Warner's Looney Tunes releases have seen. We would therefore also expect the price to remain consistant, too, at $64.92 SRP. It's not official, though, so stay tuned and we'll tell you more as developments occur. |

I missed this, but I am flattered. I don't really know much about Popeye so I'd be a poor candidate. There's going to be some sort of Warner OSCAR WINNER/NOMINEES set with POPEYE MEETS SINBAD on it, with an all new commentary track. Jerry Beck, Ray Pointer, Leslie Cabarga, and Bob Jaques are featured in it. Bob can identify just about any animator in a Popeye cartoon and will be doing audio commentary on future volumes (they were cheap the first volume and wouldn't fly him out). |

Well, it's true... and we sure have missed ya 'round here. After the second volume of Popeye, which will complete the Fleischer era, I find it hard to imagine purchasing additional volumes unless the bonus material is spectacular. Famous Studios' ScreenSong cartoons of the '50s, which revived the "Follow the Bouncing Ball" concept, can be fun with a crowd. But I can't stand the Famous Popeyes, and each one is appreciably worse than the one before it. |

My dirty secret is that I prefer Famous Popeye to Fleischer Popeye. At least the 1940s ones. I absolutely love the sophisticated animation of John Gentilella, who will be extensively highlighted on Vol. 3. |

On Christmas Day this year we had 21 people over the house (which I like to refer to as the annual gathering of misfit toys) after dinner and during desert as people mingled into the "basement" my world...one of our friends daughter (age 12) asked if she could watch the Popeye cartoons upstairs in the living room (the box set of early fleischers). when I came upstairs I found not only my friends daughter watching the cartoons but over a dozen adults glued to the TV set mesmerized....and having a whale of a time.....it just goes to show....somethings never fade away and are just waiting to be discovered again.. So excited was one of my friends that I am editing a compilation of Popeye, Betty Boop and other oldies but goodies to be projected at his New Years Party (silently) while dance music will play in the background.... I get such a head rush when I turn people onto "new" things.. till next |

Silently, eh? I recommend, then, some Koko the Clown cartoons, maybe a Felix the Cat or two, and certainly a ScreenSongs "Follow the Bouncing Ball"! |
