I picked up a BUNCH of good stuff today by visiting 3 different locations, like.....

Flintstones season 2 ($3)
Huckleberry Hound season 1 ($3)
Pinky & The Brain Vol 2 ($6)
Top Cat Complete Series ($3)
Josie & The Pussycats ($3)

and movies like.....

Cabin In The Sky and a couple of others for $3 each as well.

Will be checking out other locations looking for more Hanna-Barbera stuff, and those Superman sets that Stoney got.

I usually cast my vote by getting things like the Popeye box and the Disney tins when they first come out. If they go on clearance later, it means one of my culturally undereducated young relatives is going to get one.

Any Balconeers who run across any Hanna-Barbera DVD sets except for the ones that I mentioned that I bought the other day, would do me a real favor by picking them up for me.

I will be hitting at least one Big Lots store tonight, so let me know if I can help you out.

Word on the street is that Warner Bros. is suing somebody who was contracted to destroy "remaindered" DVDs only turned around and sold them to a cut-rate distributor for resale.

I've heard that too. I'm still hoping that these are still getting shipped out though.

Thanks to your tips I checked one of my local Big Lots!. They had several of the Popeye Volume 1 (I already own it though). They also had several seasons of Superman, Lois and Clark and volumes one of the animated Batman and Superman series (as a two pack for $3). From HB they didn't have any Flintstones (which was what I really wanted), but they did have Jonny Quest, Wacky Races and Wait Till Your Father Gets Home. They had multiple seasons of Dukes of Hazard, season 3 of Wonder Woman and several seasons of Tales From the Crypt. I even saw a copy of Casablanca for $3. I guess I'll have to visit more often.

I have a set of The New Scooby Doo Movies for trade if anyone is interested and wants to pick up a different HB set for me.

I have an idea from context but what specifically is "remaindered" DVDs? And secondly why would you contract someone to destroy perfectly good DVDs even if they don't sell. Put them out on the retail discount stores and sell them for a buck would beat destroying them.

Ah, but if you're Time/Warner you're managed by MBAs who believe that success comes from reducing the work force and screwing the customer. Now that I have the cartoons I will never, never do business with them unless they learn to treat customers respectfully (and I'm not holding my breath).

My guess is that they want to avoid paying for warehouse space, while still having a base of consumers willing to pay $30-$40 a set for this stuff without realizing that if they wait a year or two, it can be had for $3-$6.

I'd say that's a pretty darn astute guess. Personally I don't buy many new DVDs, especially not from "Warner," as these heckholes call themselves. I don't mind spending $ for a good cause, but CDs with lyrics about killing cops and beating women aren't that great a cause IMO. They make it clear they don't need my money, so they don't get it.

In view of all the good things that George Feltenstein and the catalogue division have done over the years, it will take a lot more than suing a company which didn’t live up to its contract or anger at the WB music division to turn me against them.

Yeah, I'm with Mr. Hale on this... I don't understand at all. If a Warner Bros. boxed set sells for $60 SRP, and $40 pre-order at Amazon, and then shows up a year later for $25 at Costco, I'm happy. If remaindered DVD sets were then supposed to be destroyed but are being sold for $6 at Big Lots, it costs Warners money, and who would wish that on a company that has been better than anybody at releasing vintage movies (including shorts and cartoons) and TV shows? I mean, I am happy to get that giant "History of Rock & Roll" boxed DVD set for $6, I'm not complaining... but to somehow "blame Warner Bros." for being unhappy about it doesn't make sense to me.

Looking for some Popeye info, I discovered we had 7 separate threads for the spinach-devourin' sailor, so I have hereby combined them all, using my own massive strength.
