The best copy I've ever seen had a faulty Audio track so that dopey song never played. You can take the best copy of this and toss it in the ocean for all I care. Start tossing your tomatoes at me boys, I know you all like this one.

I have two copies of this, and the Alpha is better than the Grapevine.

I have three and the Alpha's the best.

I never thought I'd say Alpha had the best copy of anything, but they really do have the best ACE DRUMMOND. Which is not to say there isn't room for improvement. I've always hoped that since VCI has gotten good material on other Universal serials re-released by Krellberg, they will eventually unearth some nice elements to DRUMMOND.

I have to agree with my buddies Panzer and Riddlerider Alpha Video does have the best copy of Ace Drummond. For years I had a copy on VHS I purchased from the gray market which was watchable but I was quite surprised when I watched the copy from Alpha.

I agree with Andy Fish about ANY copy of this one-that song got on my nerves!

'ACE is a favorite from childhood. Just how many times did Drummond crash his plane, pick himself up, dust himself off, and then calmly go about his business?

I hate to be negative, but judging by the clip on the VCI website their new DVD looks like it was transferred from an old 16mm TV print.

I just got the VCI release of Ace Drummond and compared it with the Alpha one. The VCI is clearly better. There is a bit more detail and a lot less sparklies and film damage visible. I do have some qualifications. Like all VCIs I have seen, everything is a little dark (but it is on the Alpha too) so that some detail gets lost in dark scenes. There is also some evidence of digital cleanup which shows a small bit of edge enhancement. And this new VCI Vault series uses dual-layer DVD-Rs (like Warner Archive uses) so everything is on one disk. Some people might object to the DVD-R. I have never seen any problems with them. The old original Alphas were on single layer DVDs so I suspect the overall compression is about the same. The sound seems to be generally crisper as well though I noted a bit of wavering the closing credits music.

The VCI Vault "The Mystery of the Riverboat" also looks better than the Serial Squadron version.

VCI was having a half price sale so these were cheap.
