You're not that obtuse, LG, the thread is self-explanatory and a situation you are quite familiar with. |

Know what strikes me as humorous? The fact that the people who are accusing me of being upset about this release (which I'm not) are the ones dropping "f" bombs on the board. That, to me, is the height of hilarity. Not that anyone on this board particularly cares, but what inspired Willie and Chuck's animosity towards me is the fact that I made a ruling on my page--after discussing it with a co-moderator, by the way--that Grood's pirated version of DDOTW was not to be discussed until such time as it was actually released and in people's hands. I didn't think it was a particularly unreasonable ruling then and I don't think so now. Chuck and Willie were so incensed by that ruling that they proceeded to attack me on my own board as well as popping up on other boards to fire attacks, even going so far as to repeat lies Grood told about me, eventually leading to their being banned. That is the basis of their frenzy. The fact that I wouldn't allow discussion of something before it came out from someone who at the time (and to this day for that matter) was notorious for taking people's money and not delivering the product. I stated then and repeat now that I am under absolutely no obligation to promote Grood or his products, legit or pirated. Just as Grood is apparently under no obligation to promote VCI, AC Comics, Alpha, his own father's book, or indeed anyone else even remotely involved in serials. Willie tells us that The Masked Rider will come, that the schedule just got a little screwed up. Except that those of us who have followed this saga from 2003 onward know that every time there's a supposed release date, the schedule just gets a "little screwed up" and it doesn't come. To paraphrase Runyon, I will lay you plenty of 8 to 5 that The Masked Rider debacle is a huge reason for most people's apathy as to what he does. Besides, neither one of you were at the infamous SerialFest 2009 when he openly screamed at people for wanting to watch complete serials at an event called SerialFest (as if). Neither one of you (as yet) have been on the receiving end of his diatribes. I'm not the only one to have been dealt those--I'm willing to lay you the same 8 to 5 that Gravy and Panzer have stories to share along those lines. I know for a fact Pa Stark does, too. But you two keep on fighting Grood's fights for him. One day, when he has no more use for you or does something you don't like, you'll learn, as all too many other people learned. Myself included. Oh, and Chuck, I realize reading comprehension isn't your strong suit, but I did say someone purchased DDOTW and gave it to me. I'll accept a gift from a friend. I won't give money to an enemy. |

Wowser. You, know, as silly as all this is, I love it because it seems like the old Squadron. |

Mr. Hale, glad to entertain. It does feel like old home week at the SS, for better or for worse. Apologies to all others, new to, or tired of, this whole thing. Todd, I'm not defending Grood. I'm not stupid enough to pre-pay for any online project, it's not my fault others are more easily parted with their money. I've bought many a Squadron product, once they were released, and received them all. As for your Serialfest drama, I don't give a crap. I'm just sick of you only popping up, whenever someone posts about a new Squadron release. You'll add a couple of posts in other threads, to make it look good, but be gone again until the next Grood-gate. As for DDOTW, you accepted the "gift", watched and enjoyed it (I know that because Grood did a great job on it), yet continue to slam him for releasing it. That, sir, is a hypocrite. For me, this subject is closed. |

Am I the only person who suspects willie might be Dr. Grood? Or, delicious irony, a shill for Dr. Grood? Hi, Todd. 5). that's a HIGH 5). This nonsense got me to rerun a chapter of Todd's serial -- well, part of a chapter, and it still sucks out loud. I didn't name the title because it's even dumber than the homemade video he calls a movie. |

I saw nothing on this thread that would warrant the sudden lofting of F-bombs. And leave my obtusity out of this. |

Wow, what drama. This thread would make a good plot for a serial! I need to ask something after reading all this. I really don't know anything about all this bad blood that's apparently going on between people, and I don't care. None of my business. All I want is to add more serials to my collection. I'm interested in several of the ones listed for sale on the SS website. So my question is, is it safe to order these DVDs? I understand the stuff that's supposedly still in production should be avoided, but what about the DVDs listed for sale (and the radio program CDs)? Are they also a risk? In other words, will I get the DVD if I order one? And are they good quality? I just want to buy more stuff without getting ripped off, that's all. |

Bulleteer, it is safe to order DVDs from Grood if they are already available, but if they are in production, you might wait a while before receiving them. I can recommend almost all of his titles, except THE PHANTOM EMPIRE. He obtained a very nice print, then "modernized" it adding music and tinting. Ray gun blasts were a bright purple. In his chapter one of THE VANISHING LEGION, there is a scene where Edward Hearn kisses his son, Frankie Darro hard on the lips as they are being separated. Grood edited down that scene. On the other hand he does have the best prints of THE LONE RANGER, DRUMS OF FU MANCHU, KING OF THE MOUNTIES, and DAREDEVILS OF THE WEST. Each of those titles he did extensive restoration work, more than anyone else would ever dream of. I haven't seen his DVD of THE SPIDER'S WEB yet, so I will take Willie's word that it is the best out there. (Thanks Willie) |

Truth to tell, Bulleteer, they are usually as high quality as you can find. GANGBUSTERS and ZORRO'S BLACK WHIP (which Grood mislabels for some paranoid reason) are exceptionally good releases of superior serials that never were available in decent prints before. Whether Grood honors his orders today I cannot say, because I don't trust him enough to find out. Don't give him money for what he says he is going to do, that's all I have to say. He may never do it, or, as Todd rightly points out, you may be dead before he does. I invested pretty heavily on The Masked Rider. I am blocked from the SS site, so I can't give him my new address, and so even if he ever does finish the thing, I will never see it. That doesn't make me happy. |

Nicely said, Pa. I can only add, regarding THE VANISHING LEGION, that after negative feedback from purists (myself included) Grood did offer replacement discs (at his cost) with the original scene, intact. I'm one of those that took that offer, and have the unedited disc to prove it. Fin-head, if you order the Squadron's very nice release of TVL, just request the unedited version. |

I agree with Pa and Paul completely, except for the part where there are no other good prints of Zorro's Black Whip around; I have never had a problem finding a good print of that, one of my favorite serials. Remove your F bombs, guys. I don't like them. Thank you. |

*LOL* You gotta love it, F-bombs and all. We could be talking about the Crimea, NSA, any number of things that may actually matter. But, no, let's fight about Dr. Grood and his serial restorations. What can I say, other than I'm loving it? The great days are back. |

I already have a copy of Zorro's Black Whip, made by Platinum Disc Corporation. I haven't watched it yet, but I popped it in and skipped through a few scenes to check it out, it seems to be good quality. Thanks for the info. We now return you to your regularly scheduled f-bombing. |
