Pa~No, your PM did not show up, at least not on this board. If you used Yuku it might have. I'll have to go check. I'm just too caught up in the drama on this thread.

If we all grew up, we wouldn’t be interested in serials.

While I basically agree with everything you say, of course, HiYo, and also find this utterly ridiculous, I have to say I find it a tad ironic that I (as part of "everyone on this thread") am being chided on my behavior by someone who just happened to pop in for his 14th post in 7 years, and who, it would appear, has done very little to keep the site alive in the interim. So maybe we could all work on our diplomatic skills a bit.

That Grood can sure start an argument!

Willie, it didn't look like the PM here didn't go through, so I did send it through Yucky Board. Nothing too Earth shattering.

Oooh, we're up to page 6, meaning I don't have to go back and read anything else. Whew. Mr. Hale, I just deputized you, let me know if I need to kick anyone's ass.

The one good thing I find about all this is that Grood can still inspire the disdain he deserves. I'm sure Eric'll be happy to know we still care.

I like the second "b" in the thread title. It suits this stupid thread somehow.

Eric screamed to me - SCREAMED - about the lowlife, awful, horrible, filth-encrusted independent companies who released serials that weren't in the public domain, and how they were raping babies metaphorically. Enjoy your The Spider's Web(b) money, Dr. Grood. Pimp. Whore. Rapist. Liar. Shmuck.

Grood called me worse, in one post he said I sniffed bicycle seats. He did delete it a few days later. That is why I haven't posted there in three years.

Pa, If I remember correctly, didn't he call you that after you asked if anyone had issues with chapter one of DDotW? But, hey, he puts out pirated copies of DDotW and TSW, so he's a Good Guy, unlike those of us he's ripped off, lured about, and slandered.

This is the first time ever that a discussion about an old movie has been too graphic for me to read at work.

You are correct, Todd. On some players, the picture froze for a couple of seconds during the fight in chapter one in the blacksmith shop, and a couple of other people told me the same thing happened to them. I posted about that and Grood jumped all over me and accused me of hating serials by taking a humorous line out of context, and adding, "What do you expect from someone whose hobby is sniffing bicycle seats?" In the chat room I once said that watching THE CLUTCHING HAND is like hitting yourself over the head with a hammer, because it feels so good when you stop. He posted that I hated serials and that I said that watching serials was like hitting yourself over the head with a hammer.
He did delete that post a couple of days later, but I haven't posted there since. Since then we have had some very limited communications, but I cant freely speak with him because I know this will happen again.

LG~ I apologize for this thread that I started. Right about now I'm wishing I hadn't. My sole intention was to let other serious serial collectors know that there was a great new print of TSW available. It was not my intent to start another flame war. I hope you will accept my apology.

Todd will NEVER apologize to me, and I will NEVER apologize to Todd.

I will also apologize to the rest of the members here for having to endure this thread. I am sorry that my good intention turned into a war.

I am as sick of this BS thread as the rest of you.

Hopefully, this will be my final comment on this thread and that it ends here.

I really am getting sick of the fact that this what the serial hobby has become. Little talking about serials but plenty of flame wars going around which would make any person who wanted to get into the genre a "nice side" of the people involved in the hobby.
Reminds be a lot of the old usenet newsgroups -- anyone remember them? About the same signal-to-noise ratio (0.00000000000001).

I'm a bit shocked by the outrage detailed within this thread
The serial (per se) had an enormous impact on me and I'm concerned that it has become the source of such angst here ...

Personally, I think some of who I am, comes from my watching serial heroes 'doing the righteous thing'
They were possessed of undeniable integrity, they were peerlessly honest, and never the opportunist.
And they fought the good fight with selfless displays of bravery ....

Unlike Todd, I can't wait for the Olive Film releases of The Invisible Monster & Flying Disc Man From Mars
These serials were the first two that I ever saw and wanted so much to be like Lane Carson (from The Invisible Monster)
At the time, I recall being asked what I wanted to be when I grew up: I said 'an Insurance Investigator'
Lane Carson carried credentials, which when 'flashed' made everyone step back in awe - he carried a gun, was intelligent & fearless and looked good in a suit & fedora.
What more could I want in a job as an adult? - even though I had no clue about what an Insurance Investigator actually was!

I actually have a framed original photograph of Lane Carson in our front foyer (shooting his gun whilst running after the baddies on a roof-top) - its the first thing you see when you come to our front door ...

Kent Fowler & Hal Duncan did similar deeds of derring-do in Flying Disc Man From Mars & (Walter Reed's follow-up) Government Agents vs Phantom Legion, respectively
I never got to see a serial on the big screen (instead it was afternoon TV, 4 days a week), but the release of The Invisible Monster & Flying Disc Man From Mars this year, will allow me to watch them on my son's Projection system which will come close to the theatrical experience that I missed in my youth
I love the serial

Let me make my position on Olive's future serial Blu-ray releases quite clear: I hope they do very well by them. I fully intend to buy both of them. I will even plug both of them on my Blog in the hope that that encourages people to buy them. I'm a firm believer in supporting certain things and will put my money where my mouth is when it comes to legit releases.

For instance, I have a 3D Blu-Ray player and 3D TV. I want all vintage titles released on 3D Blu-Ray. To that end, I've purchased not only House of Wax, Creature From the Black Lagoon and Dial M For Murder, but I've also gotten the Amityville Horror trilogy for Amityville 3-D, Twilight Time's recent release of Man In The Dark, and Kino's recent release of The Flesh and Blood Show. That last one is the only one I haven't plugged on my blog, only because I haven't actually watched it yet. But I will eventually watch it and plug it. Arch Oboler's The Bubble, a 1954 wartime movie called Dragonfly Squadron, and a collection of vintage 3D shorts is due to come out by the end of the year. I will purchase all three, opinions on any of the three notwithstanding. I would even go so far as to buy a 3D Blu of The Stewardesses if it came out to help encourage further vintage 3D releases. And I so hate The Stewardesses, when it was over I stood up and said "somebody owes me 90 minutes of my life".

So yes, I will buy Flying Disc Man and The Invisible Monster. I will watch them. I will review them on my blog. I wish Olive all the success in the world with them, if only to get them to put out titles like The Crimson Ghost or The Purple Monster Strikes.

But that's just me.

And Trevor, if you genuinely love both of those serials and are really looking forward to them, I sincerely hope you get many hours of enjoyment out of them.

Well said Trev

It is great to have companies releasing Blu ray copies of serials. There are many serials that do not get any exposure because there is not a decent copy available. I hope that Olive continues along this path.
