This is the list of serials we've watched on FNF with the current group of attendees (mostly)...

2004-05
The Spider’s Web
Batman and Robin

2005-06
Zorro’s Black Whip
Spy Smasher
Jungle Girl

2006-07
Radar Men from the Moon
Daredevils of the Red Circle

2007-08
The Spider Returns
Flash Gordon
The Phantom Empire

2009-10
The Adventures of Captain Marvel
Mysterious Island

2009-10
Mysterious Doctor Satan
The Shadow

2010-11
G-Men vs. the Black Dragon
Undersea Kingdom

2011-12
Secret Service in Darkest Africa
Terry and the Pirates

2012-13
Zorro’s Fighting Legion
The Green Hornet
Captain Midnight

2013-14
Drums of Fu Manchu
The Lost City
???

Taking suggestions for our next one. I was thinkin' Gang Busters, Radio Patrol, or maybe The Master Key. Possibly The Tiger Woman or King of the Rocket Men. The Vanishing Shadow, maybe. I don't think they'd like a cowboy serial. And I want to keep it 12 (or 13) chapters. We could just go for laughs and show The Phantom Creeps, too. Anyway, votes? Suggestions?

It's been about 7 years since you showed RADAR MEN FROM THE MOON, so I vote for KING OF THE ROCKETMEN, with GANG BUSTERS a close second.

By the way, next season we've got The Green Hornet Strikes Again and Batman and whatever Olive Films releases on Blu-ray, serial-wise, tentatively scheduled.

Assuming you don't want to do two Republics, I suggest The Vanishing Shadow. It's good loony fun. So is The Phantom Creeps, but I tend to remember you not liking that one (unless I'm misremembering, which is possible).

I do remember The Vanishing Shadow being good. I remember The Vanishing Legion being not too good. Is there a serial with Boris Karloff as "The Voice"? I mean, I know there is, but somebody be my google and tell me which one that is.

My homies are enjoying those Crime Does Not Pay shorts so much ("This is your MGM Crime Reporter!") that I'm thinkin' Gang Busters or Radio Patrol would be popular. I have seen them, and I think they're both pretty good, as I recall. Radio Patrol is the one that has a portion of Los Angeles looking like the market in an Egyptian movie, or so I recall, but I get 'em mixed up.

The Vanishing Legion is the one with Karloff as the Voice (as well as Eddie Hearn molesting Frankie Darro). Radio Patrol is the one with Little Egypt.

The Phantom -- Interesting in how it manages to stay fairly true to the strip. Strange in that they make you sympathize with the henchmen in one episode, trying to save one of their number.

Red Barry -- Buster Crabbe in seriously two-fisted detective story.

Tim Tyler's Luck -- Gorillas, an armored tank full of gangsters and other fun

First 13 episodes of Disney's Zorro. Darn near a serial, except no cliffhangers as such. Although evil plots or particular problems -- an innocent man in jail, for example -- may take a few weeks to sort out, individual episodes end on an up note. The first 13 weeks cover Don Diego arriving in Los Angeles and toppling the corrupt rule of Commandant Montesario. After that a new continuity kicks in, with various baddies connected to a mysterious mastermind.

Well, what with this thread and an even-longer thread on my FB Balcony page, it's looking more 'n' more like either Gang Busters or Radio Patrol. I may flip a kern.

There's a lot of silly stuff in Radio Patrol, like regularly letting a kid drive the patrol car in chases but it's more fun overall than Gang Busters. GB is rather grim, as I remember it. So it depends whether you want to emphasize fun or not.

It's the opposite for me. Checking my ratings, I gave GANG BUSTERS a 9/10 (wow, I enjoyed that one), and gave RADIO PATROL only a 6/10 (I do remember that one had a tendency to drag in places).

It's been a couple of years, at least, since I've seen either, so these ratings help refresh the ol' Bat-noggin.

I didn't say anything about the quality of the two serials. Neither are among my personal favorites though I understand why a lot of people like Gang Busters.
