I give it two thumbs up. I have always liked Victory Jory, especially when he's playing a good guy. I also enjoyed him in The Green Archer serial, and even in Charlie Chan in Rio. I don't think I've ever seen him do a bad acting job. |

Jory was the best to play the Shadow on film - really looked the part. He said that he practiced the laugh until he thought it was right. The Spider is more shadowlike in the Spider's Web. What print did you see - I have the VHS tape and made myself a DVD from it? |

Yes, I think Jory had it down pat. His laugh was perfect. His distinct voice fit the character just right. I'm not sure about what print mine is from. I do a lot of looking to get the best prices on old serials and movies. There are a lot of individuals out there who make copies and sell them, but I dont always know where the original copy was from. This company has the best prints for the price that I have found so far. |

At a film convention, we sat with Victor Jory screening chapter one of THE SHADOW. He said that James Horne was crazy. |

I've always like Victor Jory a lot. Just the other day, I ordered a little b-film he starred in that just came out via Sony's m-o-d line, entitled "Too Tough to Kill" (1935). I wished I liked his two serials more than I do, as I ultimately only found them so-so at best. One of my favorite Jory appearances was in "Sailor's Luck" (1933), where he plays the (comical) character role of a hilariously oily dance-hall promoter who keeps making the moves on Sally Eilers. I laugh just thinking about it. |

Thanks for the post, Bert. Sailor's Luck is a favorite. |
