What about serials that havent been professionally released? Do you just wait till they are?

For me, for non-commercial releases I rely on trades with friends. I haven't counted lately, but I have over 200 of the sound serials.

Wouldnt that be most all of the sound serials? :)

I believe the total is 232, but I'm not sure at the moment. Riddlerider? Pa? Anyone?

If you go to his site, you'll find some that aren' t that expensive.

With serials you get what you pay for. Half of the purveyors aren't, well, exactly crooks, they're just dumbhecksses.

I assume you are asking about the number of sound serials produced. The accepted number is 231, plus a few home made serials such as CAPTAIN CELLULOID VS. THE FILM PIRATES, which was silent and ran four chapters, and two from Todd Moore, KING OF THE PARK RANGERS, 12 chapters, and DANGERS OF DEBORAH, 10 chapters.

Thanks, Pa. I am referring to only the sound serials that were originally produced, not later, amateur efforts. So the official number of sound serials, ending with BLAZING OVERLAND TRAIL, is 231?

Well, the quality of Orsak's serials, based on what I've seen, is very high. So there is that.

Here's another site I've used in the past. I think the Maverick was at one point a Squadroneer.

Unless I missed it, there was one serial missing from that list. Chandu the Magician.

Chandu the Magician isn't a serial. Return of Chandu is, and it is on the list.

Return of Chandu is the one I was referring to. I saw it when I double checked. Do you all consider Commando Cody, Sky Marshal of the Universe to be a serial? I know there seems to be a disagreement on that.

There probably isn't ONE source for the serials that haven't been officially released. Different collectors have access to different prints and different masters, so in theory each title from each vendor should vary.

Republic serials are an exception, because EVERYONE (AC, Cheezy, and your local film convention dealer) uses the VHS or laserdiscs as sources. Still, be aware that you don't want to buy from someone who uses a dupe of a VHS tape as a source. That's a clue that you can do better elsewhere.
