Orsak has the best Columbias and is often the source for other sellers. I've never Been sorry buying from him. I also highly recommend Trevor.

Gravy, you recommend RADAR PATROL VS. SPY KING and PANTHER GIRL OF THE KONGO, but not THE FIGHTING DEVIL DOGS, KING OF THE ROYAL MOUNTED, ADVENTURES OF RED RYDER,JUNGLE GIRL, KING OF THE MOUNTIES, DAREDEVILS OF THE WEST, or THE MASKED MARVEL???

I don't know that I've seen Daredevils of the West.

I remember not liking Devil Dogs much, but it's one of those serials I always hope to get 'round to again. These days, I don't watch serials save for Friday nights. I didn't like Red Ryder because I don't like Don Barry in it.

King of the Mounties I did like.

King of the Royal Mounted was boring, I thought, with nothin' in it that Republic didn't offer somewhere else better.

The Masked Marvel is too stupid to recommend.

Jungle Girl is an awful serial except for the heroine's legs, but you can only stare at gams for so many weeks, right?

Moving right along, last night, I watched the first episode of The Green Archer on the Restored Serial Blu-ray, and about half of the first chapter of The Green Hornet Strikes Again on their Blu-ray, and watched the VCI DVD version of the latter too for comparison.

The Archer has a lot of clean up done to it, but it's perhaps over-scrubbed, it looked a little sterile to me with thinner sound. I don't think there's a perfect copy of this serial out there, though. And by the way, the first episode, I thought, was as awful as I recalled. This is the only Horne serial I think is terrible. The Hornet on BD was much better, with a good picture and booming sound. The VCI edition is fine, too, but the BD sounds way better.

In case you're wondering, I'm kicking around what serials to see next year on FNF.

I have an amazing copy of THE GREEN ARCHER, from a PD DVD company, can't recall which one right now. Great picture and sound.

I also think the serial is a blast, up there with the rest of Horne's output that I have seen so far.

I don't get the vitriol against Horne. He makes some fun, entertaining serials that are never dull.

I don't share your love for Horne's serials. They're OK but not great IMO. What bothers me about Horne serials is that he does stuff that I find annoying, like trying to be funny at the wrong moment and using sped-up motion in actions scenes. I think he hated the material in serials and tried to do stuff that reflected this.

And I am the opposite. I don't find Horne's serials try to be overly humourous. And for me, they are a breath a fresh air after watching some of the more stale serials.

Watch 3 generic western serials, or three 50s Republic and/or Columbia serials, afterwards the Horne's are a real treat.

Agree with you. Bats. 'Refreshing' is the perfect word. Though I could do without the undercranked action scenes.

Well, it's not just the action scenes. Everybody runs everywhere! Nobody strolls from their car to their front door. That's a big part of why my FNF crowd loves them.

bats of a feather flock together, I'm a Horne fan too, and I really dug The Green Archer. I watched it on the flight to Japan between other old movies and got about a third of the way through it before the flight was over.

I just watched that one a couple days ago. It wasnt as bad as I had heard. But not as good as I would have liked. Probably one of the tamest serials I have seen.

I bought DEADWOOD DICK from Red Circle or AC or the like on eBay when my emails to Trev weren't going through-- it's watchable quality but pretty watery. I eventually got hold of Trev and ordered one from him, I'm always amazed that coming from Australia the discs get here within a week, and HIS copy is excellent especially for a Columbia. Plus Trev is a pleasure to deal with-- I really don't know why anyone would go elsewhere if quality and service matters.

Anyone interested in the Red Circle copy of DEADWOOD I have just shoot me an email and you can have it for the postage.

Good info, Andy. I believe trev's the best in the business, and I will certainly buy my copy of DD from him.
