Serial quality rating system

Don't know if someone has already done this or not. There needs to be some sort of rating system that everyone could use to determine the quality of a serial print. Not how good the serial is, but how good the transfer is. A lot of times someone will compare a dvd print to that of another company, but if you havent seen the other print, you dont know the comparison. Not sure how it could be done. One of you geniuses needs to work on that. I'm just the "idea guy". :)

Well, I'll get us started with the serials we've watched on FNF this season, how'd that be?

Serials on DVD
TitleDVD companySerial Rating (1-10)DVD Rating (1-10)Extras?Comments
Drums of Fu ManchuSerial Squadron87Intro by William P. MaynardA very good serial that drags badly over the past several chapters; the DVD-R is good, an improvement over the VCI version, but too dark in some scenes and the sound could be better in some episodes.
The Lost CityVCI97Trailers, bios, poster galleryOne of the wackiest, most fun of all serials has been in the public domain for ages. It's a delight to see it in its glory, although from a generally worn print that occasionally gets rough.
Gang BustersSerial Squadron88TrailerGood serial, marred by typical Universal stock footage surfeit but these things are what they are. Nice presentation by the SS. (As of this writing, we have 5 more chapters to go; I'll let you know if there's a quality problem ahead.)

How to make a nice little chart.

And there you are.A table. There's no message in this box.We want you to feel you're getting value from your annual membership dues, you see.

If I might offer a suggestion: If you're going to do this, it would be most useful, no matter what format you decide upon, to collect all the information in the lead post of the thread.

In other words, start a new thread, and in the first post simply list all the serials, then add and amend notes on the best copies available as more opinions come in from subsequent posts.

If you don't do this, people are quickly going to lose interest as the thread grows and they have to thumb through dozens of pages to find what they want.

There are several HTF threads that use this approach. One I look at fairly often is pre-80's films available on Blu-Ray.

Of course someone would have to take charge and do the editing. Moodyhound?

That's a fantastic suggestion, Frank. It would make keeping track much easier.

I have a buddy like that, full of ideas, but wants others to do the dirty work, while he retains the credit. He's still working in a warehouse.

That sounds like work to me, bub.

Anyone who wants to know who has the best copy of The Adventures of the Clutching Junior G-Men of the Black Coin or whatever can just scan through the pages and not be such a Lazy Larry, as my Gramma would say.

It actually wasn't that difficult, I set it up in less than 30 minutes. I left out the column for rating the serials, as we want to keep this as just a rating system for the quality of the DVD releases.

Anyone interested, just head over to the new thread Rating the DVD Releases of Sound Serials
