Worn prints lose detail.

And you know this how? On the basis of your many years of experience handling, collecting and projecting 16mm and 35mm film?

You're just plain wrong about this, Gravy, but have it your own way. I've already said more on this topic than I meant to.

I'd rather watch a worn 16mm print or transfer than a whole lot of stuff. Actually, I prefer it.

Fighting Marines (SS on two DVD-R's) 8, although I suspect that Eric may have monkeyed with the credits, putting the chapter one credits on every chapter. I'm not super familiar with Mascots though so I can't say for sure. .

Nope, this is one time Eric is innocent, every chapter of THE FIGHTING MARINES had the lead player opticals. Only a few Mascots had player opticals. BTW, right now I am in Honolulu, and today I was showering at the beach and the surface was slippery, and my feet went from under me, and I landed hard on my back. Ouch, I am in pain right now.
Hope I feel better tomorrow

Nope. On the basis of watching digital versions of them, which is what we're talkin' about. I see what you don't want to get mixed up in this.

If you feel that an unbiased observer watching a a worn print that's "sharp as a tack" and a great print that's "sharp as a tack" is seeing the same image, I'm going to disagree with YOU.

Mysterious Dr. Satan - AC Comics

Mystery Trooper - Grapevine

The Oregon Trail - VCI

The Painted Stallion - Serial Squadron

I'll check out the Restored Serials release of Desert Hawk tonight. As I recall, it's watchable, but not great.

Zorro's Black Whip. From what I can tell, the choices are VCI, SS or Roan. Which is the best?

Tim Tyler's Luck (VCI):

6. The opening credits have been reconstructed and cloned to some extent.

Extras: Interview with Frankie Thomas (19m); trailer; 3 other serial trailers; photo gallery; bios.

That's about it from me. I think everything I have has been covered.

Bats,
The Last Frontier - I have both the Roan Release and VCI's

VCI
1 DVD

Bios of Lon Chaney, Jr., Dorothy Gulliver, Spencer Gordon Bennett and Thomas L. Story

Cliffhanger Trailers

Roan
1 DVD

Feature entitled: Radiation March

Interview with John Badham on making your "Own damn Movie"

Last Frontier DVD credits

and interview with Lou Lumenick Chief New York Post Film Critic

Both prints look pretty good but in this case I'll give the nod to VCI. The only difference is the VCI print has the RKO Radio logo at the beginning but this logo is from later in the 30's. In the credits both prints have Yakina instead of Yakima Canutt.

Rating wise: 5

Thanks, Frank, your input is really appreciated. I hope you stick around and chime in from time to time.

Since both you and Bart posted about TTL, with ratings of 6 and 8 respectively, I will average it out to a 7.

Bart, thanks, I have decided to post both versions of THE LAST FRONTIER, since they seem comparable and people can choose the edition they want based on the extras.

I'll weigh in on Tim Tyler's Luck: 8. Includes trailers for The Oregon Trail, Riders of Death Valley, and Cap'n Video.

Zorro's Black Whip (VCI, 1 DVD): 7. Includes the trailer, plus one for SOS Coast Guard and bios.

Zorro's Fighting Legion (VCI, 1 DVD): 8. Includes trailers for a plethora of vintage TV shows from VCI.

Zorro Rides Again VCI, 1 DVD): 8. Includes trailers for this one plus Adventures of Red Ryder. All three Zorros are in one boxed set.

Oh, yeah, and Secret Agent X-9 '45 ALSO comes with a full-color, full-size fold-out copy of one of the lobby cards.
