Well, if the first chapter of the serial is long and drawn out, setting up the characters in their pecking order and setting up a basic story line VS. an action filled middle chapter there is reason for debate. Some serials take a while to get going, and in that case I'd choose a middle chapter over the tedious first chapter.

On the other hand, if it's a serial that jump starts right after the opening credits of the first chapter, I'd opt for that.

Usually the first chapter has most of the people, special effects, action, and almost all of the plot if there is one. I'd go for it every time.

That's why I go for chapter 6 or so... it's more "typical" of what my FNF gang would be watching for 3 or 4 months.

OK, I only have to go through the last three pages, and then I believe I will have caught up to all the posts made so far.

Thanks everyone, and please keep 'em coming.

Thanks, Mr P. :$

OK, the list is fully updated with all that has been posted so far. Also all ratings have been averaged, based on ratings posted so far.

Everyone please continue to post your ratings for the serials listed and I will update the averages.

And there are still lots of serials that have no recommendations yet, so please feel free to post your choices.

There is also a glitch in the first chapter of VCI's Zorro's Black Whip. Not sure if it's the same glitch as other sources.

I picked up a Deadwood Dick from Trev before he shut down the site-- it's a solid 7, and a very nice print for a Columbia.

I'm in a bit of a quandary. If Trev's product is no longer available, should not the next-best available release be the one added to the list? I was trying to make a list of the best DVD versions currently available.

Thoughts?

I think having more than one source listed is OK

Bats,
Even though Trev is out of Business I would leave any rating of his that is the best until someone comes up with a new vendor who has a better copy. I don't think that would be a problem.
