He took the opening chapter credits and stuck them on the next 14 chapters. He added Karloff's name to the credits of whatever serial THAT was. The Buck Rogers you describe is VCI's special edition, their upgrade of the earlier one. |

Are you referring to the SS version of CAPTAIN AMERICA? Are the opening credits for the remaining chapters markedly different from the credits in the opening chapter? If not, it's not a big deal for me, but I do want to include any and all relevant information for each release. Or do you know of a superior release for the Captain America serial that can replace the SS version on this list? Again, not a big deal breaker for me, but please let me know what serial, so I can include it in the notes. Also, if there is a better version, please let me know. Thanks, I will add that note about Buck Rogers, I should have in the first place, as the 75th anniversary edition is a notable upgrade from VCI's earlier release. |

Yes, Captain America. Not aware that it's available anywhere, and the first episode - with everyone standing there lookin' concerned while their names were flashed on the screen - were replaced (in the actual credits) by text in the following chapter. Groodski just stuck chapter one on there 15 times. |

The Green Hornet (VCI) also contains an audiobiography, "I am... the Hornet!" as transcribed by that Clifford Weimer feller. |

Thanks for the GREEN HORNET update, I've added it to the extras notes. I won't bother with the note on the CAPTAIN AMERICA opening credits, since the serial is not readily available, the extra verbiage is not worth posting. And if one can obtain a copy, the excellent picture/sound quality easily supersedes the need for perfect opening credit representation, IMHO. |

I'm a little confused about the credits situation on the Captain America serial. The one I saw, the first chapter had everyone standing there individually as their names were credited. All the remaining chapters had Captain America riding his motor cycle as the credits scrolled. Is that how it should be, or is that the altered version? |

I dont know what release it was. Thats why I was curious if you could tell by the opening credits if it was the ss version or not. |

If i remember correctly, the last few chapters of CAPTAIN AMERICA did have the correct credits, it was about the first 10 that showed the lead player opticals from chapter one. Also the end credits were missing from those chapters. You guys sure are tough to please, giving only an eight to VCI's mint copies of JUNGLE JIM and both SECRET AGENT X-9s. Gravy, the Squadron release where Boris Karloff's name was added to the credits was THE VANISHING LEGION, because he provided the voice for the mystery villain. Grood's upgrade of THE LONE RANGER is a couple of points better than his previous release. |

Pa, I might be tempted to rate them a 9. Super Restored Serials offers Blu-rays of The Green Archer and The Green Hornet Strikes Again. Archer: I'd give it an 8 if I'm charitable. Bonus material includes a trailer, an interview with Victor Jory, and a CD-Rom with the pressbook, lobbycard images, and the script for the serial "Terrible People". Hornet: 9. Bonus includes pressbook, photos, and other promo materials on CD-Rom. |

Pa, I added or changed the following: Added an "8" rating for JUNGLE JIM (I hadn't rated it yet, as I haven't seen it yet, so you must have misread another serial's rating as the one for JJ). Changed the ratings for both Secret Agent X-9 serials to 9's. Changed THE LONE RANGER rating from 7 to 8. If enough people think it's a 9, I can certainly change it again. I'm not going to add Blu-Ray versions to this list. I want to keep it just for DVDs. If someone else wants to start a Blu-Ray thread, by all means have at it. |

Pa, I've added to the Vanishing Legion, I gave it a 7, based on memory. But if it should be higher or lower, let me know. I also added a note about the altered credits to this serial. |

So ss remastered Captain America, but altered the opening credits on some of the chapters? I though one of the big points for hard core collectors was having them as close to the original as possible. Seems odd. The one I watched must have been an unaltered copy then, cause it only had the first chapter opening credits on the first chapter. All the other chapter credits were Captain America riding a motorcycle while the credits were shown. At the end of each chapter, it said what the next weeks chapter title was, then showed Captain America riding his motorcycle as the ending credits were shown. Had another thought/question, do any of the places that remaster the serials omit the credits to save time so it can be fit on one disc? I know i have seen the same serial for sale as a one disc, and as a two disc. Just wondering. Edited by moodyhound, Jun 17 2014, 06:45 AM.

I think that presenting serials as close as they were to their original presentation is important. Adding the "pictorial" credits to subsequent chapters is just as bad to me as creating a new 'scroll" would be for those Universal serials that begin without them, having cast members recap verbally what's going on. Ditto giving Karloff a sudden credit page. The Lone Ranger an 8? What were YOU folks watching? Objectively, I'd call it a 6. It's one of the worst transfers due to the paucity of good materials to work with, somebody picking it up thinking it's an 8/10 is sure to be disappointed to the point of anger. |
