Alpha's SHADOW OF THE EAGLE is surprisingly good. The print shows a bit of wear, but I give it a solid 7.

Is it complete, though? Does it have the scene of the guy falling from the Ferris wheel at the end of the first chapter, for instance?

SHADOW OF THE EAGLE is one of my favourite serials and I have bought three or four different editions, trying to get the best print/most complete print.

My first acquisition of the serial, from Treeline, seems to be the most complete, and has decent picture/sound. But I am always willing to upgrade this one.

I've got that serial on a John Wayne serials set from Koch Releasing, issued back in 2006. As I remember that looked pretty decent but it's been several years since I looked at it. I'll see if I can find time to look at it again.

Bats,
I've got a pretty decent print also and I think this might have been one I got from Richard Orsak.

Thanks, guys. If you could each check and see if your copy has the man falling from the Ferris wheel at the end of Chapter One, that would be great.

Bats, the fall from the ferris wheel was the cliffhanger for chapter three, and yes, it is missing. So are the next week cards, so I drop it to 6.99. LOL. The cliffhanger for chapter one has Wayne carrying the heroine, while a plane swoops down on them. I wonder if Hitchcock saw this, because he copied it in NORTH BY NORTHWEST. Also, for the cliffhanger for chapter one of THE GALLOPING GHOST Red Grange falls from a plane, and to shoot it, Mascot did a trick where they zoomed out to make it look like he was falling. Hitchcock also used that zooming technique in VERTIGO.

Thanks, Pa. Yeah, sorry, chapter 3. Looks like that's not an upgrade on the version I have.

Of the many versions of Shadow of the Eagle currently available, which one has the complete ending of chapter three? My old VHS version is also incomplete.

I have the Rhino version on tape. The end of chapter 3 shows 2 men fighting on the farris wheel, then a letter drops and an arm reaches in and picks it up. Then you see the body fall from the top. The announcer gets in 2 words about the next episode and then it is abruptly cut short and immediately goes into chapter 4. Hope this helps.

My copy from Treeline has the complete ending for Chapter 3, showing the man falling from the Ferris wheel. I have 2 or 3 other version, but can't recall if they have the ending as well. I need to check that. I would like to get the most complete version of this serial, in the best shape possible. It's a personal favourite, I know it's not loved by many others, but I'm fond of circus/carnival settings and this one works for me.

Does it have the next week cards or end abruptly like the Rhino version?

I can't recall, but I am going to check it out tonight. I am quite curious now and want to track down the best version. There seems to be more of them out there than I realized.

Stay tuned...

I looked at my copy of Shadow of the Eagle and it does have the guy falling from the ferris wheel at the end of Chapter 3 though the fall is quite abbreviated (just like williejg described his copy), as if a few frames might be missing. The overall quality is maybe just a cut or so above a reasonably good Alpha release. I'd give it 6.5 to maybe 7 tops.

The set, by the way, is from Passport Video. I think Koch Releasing was the distributor. It has the 3 Wayne serials plus a 25-minute bonus called Hollywood Remembers John Wayne spread over 5 discs.

Thanks, Jazzy, I've seen that set before. If I find it again, is it worth $5 for the Hollywood Remembers John Wayne featurette?
