Bart, we're all sorry to hear that news. But now that you're sure that you have R. Orsak's Deadwood Dick, how about rating it. That's what this thread is all about.

Mr. Orsak, I hope you don't mind me saying this, but I believe that most of us would love to see you go back into business selling serials. Preferably on DVD but I'm sure that most would even accept your VHS releases. A lot of us, myself included, did not hear about your site and the nice quality of your releases until it was too late and you had closed shop.

Hello Mr. Orsak. Won't you please come on up here "in the balcony" from time to time to add some comments, critiques and stories of all your experiences in the video and movie business? That would be great!
Hey gang, we gotta treat this guy right . . . . so I'll buy the popcorn. Who's going to spring for the cola, Dots and Chuckles?

Bats,
I'd have to rate Orsak's Deadwood Dick a solid 8.5 to 9 as it's probably the best copy available, period.

Buying a grey market serial from Mr. Orsak was like buying a film from Criterion - you knew you were getting the best available print.

As we've reached the mid-way point on Batman, it's time for me to start thinking about what serial I'm going to show next on FNF and this little spreadsheet is helping. Thanks, guys. Since this is a Columbia, by rights Universal or Republic should come next, but we haven't had a Horne serial in a while so I'm considering that, too. We shall see.

LG,
IMHO Deadwood Dick was the best serial James Horne Directed as a solo Director.

Some titles I've looked at recently:

ACE DRUMMOND-VCI 7.5
BATTLING WITH BUFFALO BILL-VCI 7.5-8
BLACK ARROW-ROB MOHR 8
BLAKE OF SCOTLAND YARD-SS 7.5-8
HEROES OF THE WEST-HERMITAGE HILL 7.5-8
JUNGLE QUEEN-VCI 8
MANDRAKE THE MAGICIAN-VCI 7.5-8
OVERLAND MAIL-VCI 7.5
SHADOW OF CHINATOWN-WHIRLWIND 6.5
THE PERILS OF PAULINE-VCI 9
THE ROARING WEST-GRAPEVINE 7
WINNERS OF THE WEST-VCI 7-7.5
WHITE EAGLE-VCI 8.5-9

willie

Finally getting these latest updates in the chart.

Willie, a couple of questions/comments:

Black Arrow - this was only available from Rob on a personal basis, so it's not readily available. I will leave it up for now, until a more readily available version comes along.

Shadow of Chinatown - is Whirlwind still active? I looked for this online, but couldn't find it. Again, I will leave up, but if not readily available, I'd rather put an available edition up.

The Roaring West - I couldn't find this title on Grapevine's site, nor could I find third-party copies on Amazon. Is this still available from Grapevine, or did you mean a different supplier?

Thanks!

Pa~ I'm sorry if I misunderstood your question. If you were asking if Ch. 1 of THE LIGHTNING WARRIOR was complete as far as content goes, I have no idea.
Willie, I meant is the print complete, every other print I have seen of THE LIGHTNING WARRIOR is missing the last five minutes of chapter one. The print I have of BURN EM UP BARNES is also missing the cliffhanger to chapter one.

Hi Bats~ Long time no hear.

BLACK ARROW-Might as well delete it since this was a private issue from Rob, and I don't think anyone else has or will release it.

SHADOW OF CHINATOWN-I doubt that Whirlwind is in business any more, but this title might be available from other sources. Not sure. Possibly Alpha. Do what you want with this one.

THE ROARING WEST--Not on their current online list, but I'll bet an email will get you a copy. They don't throw anything away.

Thanks, Willie.

I will probably take BLACK ARROW off, since it really won't be widely available.

I'll leave SHADOW OF CHINATOWN on there, but add a note that the company is out of business. Third party copies could be possible.

I'll update THE ROARING WEST, too.

And, thanks, to you, too, LG. Appreciate the effort.

I was given a two minute preview of WOLF DOG from Dr. Grood, and it does look very good. Lets hope the rest of it, and the other Mascots are as good.

I'm leaning toward Holt of the Secret Service to follow up Batman. Horne serials go over well.

My guess, the ladies won't like it. I never had much luck with that title.
