Riddle Rider and Jazzy Guy, Thanks for the extra input. Sounds like a reasonable explanation. Maybe they'll do the same for The Blackhawk serial. I'm always amazed when new and improved versions of serials turn up. willie |

Blackhawk is my only remaining VHS Columbia serial I haven't found a good upgrade to DVD for yet. |

Having just moved, all my serials are still packed away, but I have BLACKHAWK and I remember it looking quite good. I believe it was an AC Comics release, but I could be wrong. |

Actually, that is pretty funny. You'd think the guy that started this thread would at least think to look there. Sheesh, what a maroon. |

Yes, along with the giant coin and stuffed dinosaur, I've added an 65" widescreen TV and just needed more room. |

Chandu, We all call the company AC Comics, but you won't find any serials at their website. Look for Cultretro Cliffhanger DVDs to locate Blackhawk. willie |

This thread is dedicated to rating the a/v quality of serials on DVD. But is there a listing of who is still selling them? I'm probably not alone in not knowing ALL of the best sources, and many reliable sellers have dropped off the map. Any help would certainly be appreciated. willie |

Thanks Willie. I had looked at the AC Comics website and was puzzled, finding no serials for sale. |

I'll probably get in trouble for this post. I seem to be quite adept at doing so, although that is not my intent. I seem to remember everyone getting pretty excited when Bat's started this thread, myself included. And I for one am still trying to upgrade many of my serial titles. I have many titles on VHS that aren't in watchable condition. I had hoped that this thread would help me locate solid upgrades on DVD. But I see that even though this thread is over a year and a quarter old there are still many holes in the list. I'm not trying to lay blame on anybody. I guess we're all to blame. That list on page 1 should be a good tool for anyone to use to find the best quality versions of any serial titles on DVD. I also think it should specify when a title is only available from bootleggers. I don't know if it's against the rules to say that "Joe Blow" has an 8.5 version of "Capt Terrific" or not. But maybe it should be allowed. It seems that there are fewer serial sellers these days. I know there are several sellers on Ebay, but who can you trust? Reputable dealers like Richard Orsak and OldieDVD are gone now, so where do collectors turn? I understand the idea of not using bootleggers and supporting the legit sellers to promote more releases. But how is anyone to upgrade their collection? Purchasing 4 and 5 versions of a title to get a watchable print gets old quickly, and I'm sure there are others going through the same thing. I think we should all put more info in on this list. It would benefit us all and any newbies. Of course, anybody sitting on a collection that is marvelous might just hold out and think "why bother?", but I say please help. If that won't work, maybe I should ask if there's a thread on this site that lists the current serial seller websites. I've searched this site and couldn't find a thread along those lines. I've also searched online, and there are few friendly websites around anymore. Many sellers will not give honest appraisals of their product and just say "Best Available" or from "Collector Sources" which drives me nuts. Edited by williejg, Oct 7 2016, 12:36 PM.

Hmmm. I'll be honest, I don't buy grey markets anymore unless I absolutely have to (a horror film for Shock Theatre, maybe; I did buy one grey market for that). I find that those sorts of duped things often look horrible on a big-screen HD TV. Cheezy Flicks, AC Comics, VCI, and now Olive are the only DVD releasers I trusted for serial DVDs (well, Roan Group back in the day, too, I s'pose). |

OK, point made, and I can agree with you. But what about the titles that have never seen a quality release by a reputable distributor? How is anyone to find nice copies of those? At some point, at some time, some hard to find titles have been properly transferred to DVD from quality prints. But we need to know where to find them. My point is that there are nice serials out there from sources other than those you have listed. And personally, I can use all the help I can get locating them. I've been collecting serials on and off for over 25 years, and I'm still trying to upgrade titles that are unwatchable. Finding nice quality prints of many titles can get pretty daunting. Imagine how folks new to collecting serials must feel. |

Well, to THOSE people, I'd just remind them that a serial chapter a week - as God and Nat Levine intended - is only four serials a year, and watching four serials a year it will take a good number of years to get through all the releases from Olive, VCI, Cheezy Flicks, and AC Comics. |
