Definitely one of the best, IMHO, and the VCI DVD looks great. I'd agree it's a solid 9 and have made it so.

You know when I come to this site I should just empty my pockets into my iMac-- just ordered KING OF THE ROYAL MOUNTED.
I jest-- always glad to hear recommendations.

Bats, I would give the Mill Creek Blackhawk a solid 9 1/2 (no DVD can get a 10; that's reserved for the best Blu-Rays). Very clean and sharp picture with good detail. I guess real thanks go to the people at Sony Pictures that gave Mill Creek a quality master.

Thanks, Jazzy. Have you compared that to the AC comics release of BLACKHAWK? I see we have that rated a 9/10, and I have that version and remember it looking spectacular (for a DVD). Does the MillCreek release rate that extra 1/2 point?

All a moot point for me, isn't there a Blu-Ray version scheduled for release? Can't remember who is releasing it, but I'll be sure to pick it up.

But would still like your feedback as this is the list to update. No point in doing a Blu-Ray list, as I doubt there will be competing BD releases to debate.

Don't have the AC to compare with. Maybe someone else has that. I don't see how the AC could be any better.

I have the AC version, and for DVD it looks great. But, really, a moot point. Most of us are Blu-Ray capable and likely to upgrade to the new Blu release. But I will upgrade the DVD listing to a 9.5 and the MillCreek release, for those that haven't made the jump from DVD.

Bat's,
I may be mistaken, but I believe that Gravy was able to compare the 2 prints earlier in this thread or a thread strictly about the Mill Creek release. I believe he stated that there was a definitive difference between the 2. I'm sure he'll pipe up after this post.

Rodney, I can't agree with you more about VCI's King of the Royal mounted. My only regret is that the sequel is not available in similar condition. King of the Mounties is definitely the better of the 2 as far as the story goes. Such a shame that that title was never preserved properly.

I like the gimmick of the Falcon Plane, and the volcano hideout, they really added to the enjoyment of the serial. Along with THE MASKED MARVEL, it was Republic's slickest and fastest paced serial. However at that time Republic did over do it with the Lydecker Brothers miniatures, way too many cliffhangers ended with massive explosions.

Where did you hear about a blu release of Blackhawk (I already bought the Mill Creek DVD, and am not planning on upgrading, but I'm curious)?

Sorry, Rodney, I may have gotten my recent serial releases mixed up. I thought BLACKHAWK was one of the serials scheduled for a Blu-Ray release this year. From Kino, or Olive or MillCreek. I thought someone had mentioned it on this board. I could be wrong.

'Cat, thanks, I've forgotten about that, but I was going to upgrade the listing to the MillCreek so it's all good.

Bats, you need to get the rating up for the new Daredevils of the Red Circle Blu.

Thanks, Jazzy, just did. Since this is a DVD list, primarily, I have added in the notes that there is also a Blu-Ray version available from Kino, as well as the DVD version.

Sort of like the current action movies and CGI explosions.

Grood did it again. I received his three serial Rocketman set, and he tinted the outdoor scenes of RADAR MAN FROM THE MOON blue. Also flames are tinted orange. The other two serials are not tampered with.
