A true Balcony Gang team project.

Yep. The first one since we all de-pantsed Jerry Blake and dragged him around the parking lot. Hee! Hee! THOSE were the days, by cracky!

LOL, I agree, this project has brought back the good old days, when it was all fun.

Did Captain Video actually have color sequences on original release? I never knew that.

One more thing. Is there any release any Balconeer would give a 10?

Why not?

Colour in the sense that the film was tinted a different colour for each of the planets that Capt. Video was visiting. So when Video was on one planet the film was orange etc.

I bought Cap'n Marvel recently for my grandson, a real DVD with a colorful packaging with comic book art on it. Not sure where it was from (I think I got it from Amazon.com, or maybe Dimple Records) and I'll check with my son when I can and ask him. The quality was similar to the Republic release. A very good, professional release, though.

I couldn't find this on Amazon. I'm curious about it, though, is it an official release? I don't know what happened to the serial's rights, once the Artisan DVD went OOP.

Haven't heard back from my son (he's in Georgia).

Jack Theakston - the guru of color - helped me match the hues for VCI when they were preparing their Video video release.

I'm doing my best to monitor this thread whist traveling abroad at the moment and for a further three weeks.
As mentioned previously since early 2013, I've been using new software to completely remaster my collection from the ground up. A lot of my serials are now on 2 DVDs and are a vast improvement on my earlier masteries
To my knowledge there are only 3 regular contributors to this Gravy's website who have any if my new masteries:

Andy Fish has Deadwood Dick (he mentions it on page 5 of The Best and Worst Place to Buy Serials thread)
Steve Colt has the Jesse James Trilogy (he mentions the first JJ entry in the Cheezy Flicks Jesse James Rides Again thread)
Laughing Gravy has The Sea Hound

Rating any other of my masteries (including Monster and the Ape) would appear to be spurious given that it's not the version that is now available
I won't rate any of my serials here (although I do when queried about quality during a potential transaction)

Suffice to say that which I do here is the best that I can do and given that I often go close to losing money on any ( serial only) sales, I'm not exactly encouraging sales

Thanks for the info, Trev. I will leave the Cheezy Flicks version of Monster and the Ape on our chart.

Sky Raiders: (Alpha, 1 disc, true DVD): 6. No extras.
The Tiger Woman: (Roan Group, 1 disc, true DVD): 6. Extras: 5 min. intro by Lou Lumenick, "Chief Film Critic for the New York Post"; 41 min. episode of The New Adventures of Tarzan (ch. 1?); trailers for non-serial Troma releases; production notes. Carries the "Perils of the Darkest Jungle" re-release titles.
The Sea Hound (DownUnderDVD, 2 DVD-Rs): 5. Comes with a full-color laminated Sea Hound promo card. (And now you know, Trev, why I didn't want to review this. I watched it on a big screen and on a small screen and on both, I found both discs too fuzzy to enjoy. Sorry.)

No worries, here
My original claim was that it is superior to both Fred Shays & Richard Orsak
I'm still sticking to that claim
Gravy: have you seen or are you aware of a better print?

I have a copy of THE SEA HOUND, but unfortunately I don't know the source as it was from a friend who is no longer with us.

I checked my own ratings and gave it a "Decent copy - upgrade if near perfect copy becomes available" review for quality.

Bats,
The Red Barry Version released by VCI is definitely the better of the 2 versions that were released. I was a supporter of Hermitage Hill Video and a friend but the VCI version gets the nod.
Barcroft
P.S. And I did buy both versions

Bats,
I have the VCI version of Raiders of Ghost City and included with the serial are bios of the stars and serial trailers. This is one of my favorite Universals and I'd give it 8 out 10. Great story and cast including Dennis Moore, Lionel Atwill and Joe Sawyer. One thing about Universals is that they fill the screen with extras whereas with some of the later Republic westerns you could count the people with one hand.

I have the Alpha King of the Wild and it is barely watchable. There are lots of missing frames, contrast is poor and sound is terrible. Even for Alpha, this is a poor release. A 5 at best.
