"The script for the upcoming film will be written by Ehren Kruger (Transformers franchise), while Justin Springer (Oblivion, Tron: Legacy) will be producing it."

That's inspiring.

Sounds like a Dumbo idea to me.

To paraphrase Inigo Montoya, "Live Action". You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Well, for sure it will be live action plus tons of CGI. That's why this sounds like such a poor idea to me. Why replace some of the best hand-drawn animation Disney ever did with gimmicky CGI?

IMO Dumbo is the greatest cartoon feature, because of Walt Kelly's contributions. He's gone, so a remake won't have that genius quality.

My God. Why? Why, with so many bad movies (with good premises) that are crying for a remake, does Hollywood continue to make bad versions of classic films?

This thread's title could not be more apropos.

Laura hasn't yet been remade, therefore, we cannot say whether its a good or bad result. Anyway, even if the Laura remake was brilliant there are those that'll say it was still a bad idea. Some cannot be pleased by anything.

And with that, I hope Gone With the Wind gets a future remake.

Nah, the studio would want to make it politically correct. Why not make The Wind Done Gone instead? That has the potential to have something to offend everyone.

The issue isn't whether to do a sequel or remake but can you do anything to make it better. With a film like Laura which is already great, why attempt to do it again. The original should be enough to satisfy anyone. Oh, yeah, but the original isn't in color or widescreen. So, who cares about that. I don't.

Saving Private Ryan definitely needs remaking. As it stands, the Americans act like they won WW2 all by themselves. They even teach American kids that crap in schools, no wonder many grow up narcissistic.

No, they don't. The role of the Brits, Russians and others is still taught.

Not in Saving Private Ryan. That movie focuses on the Americans.

Movies don't necessarily represent American education. Besides American movies that present an America-centric viewpoint are nothing new. Just don't believe that they represent the thinking of all Americans.
