Hey balconeers I'm a Blu convert and I want to be selective about what to get.
Robin Hood, Wizard of Oz-- got it. What else shouldn't I miss? My player up scales my DVDs and I spent the time to calibrate my TV up to it's full resolution so even what I have is looking so much better.

Today I picked up JURASSIC PARK but what else should I keep my peepers open for?

Welcome to the Other Side.

The first two I got weren't in my DVD collection - Transformers 3 and Dark Knight. Another I picked up was Gladiator. Not played it yet but have seen screen comparisons. WOW!

Other great Blu-Rays (depending on what you like as far as content):

Batman Begins
An American in Paris
Singin' In the Rain
Most of the James Bond movies (the first couple are the best they can be considering they were shot on cheap budgets and the original quality was compromised)
Dumbo
Mary Poppins
The Warner Cartoon Platinum Editions
The Trouble With Harry
Pinocchio
the Toy Story movies
Coraline
Ratatouille
Ponyo
2001
Forbidden Planet
Gravity
Hugo
Lady and the Tramp
Lord of the Rings movies
Planet Earth (BBC documentary - get the one with the Attenborough narration)
Shane
Casablanca
How the West Was Won
The Quiet Man
Wings
Band of Brothers

Sorry the list is so heavy on animation and special effects movies but these things look magnificent in Blu-Ray but there should be something for everyone in this list. All of these look fabulous on Blu-Ray based on my viewing (and the sound is usually superior as well) and some of the classics have never been on video in anything close to this quality before.

I've done it many hours ago already. I've gone through the picture and sound qualities that produce the best visual experience for me.

Something I need to ask everybody here: Why do you want perfect pictures and sounds? Surely, a picture and sound as it stands would be enough.

TVs as shipped from the factory are adjusted to look good on a store display where there are usually lots of bright fluorescent lights and so on. Your home environment is nothing like this. Therefore you should adjust any new TV to produce the best results in your home.

As for perfect picture and sound, both are really unachievable but you should want to get your setup as close to perfect as possible. The reason is this will give you the closest approximation in your home to what the people who made the movies or TV show wanted you to see and hear. If you don't care for being faithful to their vision, then adjust it however it pleases you. Just be aware that you may lose picture detail and information that might have otherwise been seen and which was supposed to be seen. Movies and TV shows are made to industry standards and approximating those standards to the greatest extent possible in your home produces the best results.

Some of your very best advice, Jazzy. I learned something.

Any more perfect and I'll get to see the hidden subliminal messages! :D Hang on, they're already showing in Disney movies with sexual themes! Oh my, cover those children's eyes, we can't have them seeing that prominent member upon the seahorse in Little Mermaid!

ML!! You've gone over to the dark side? I though they would have to drag you kicking and screaming into the HD store. I guess that just leaves me as the last holdout, but I doubt I'll last much longer either. Enjoy!

I was blown away by the new Warner Archive BD of Out of the Past and by Universal's Touch of Evil. And when I wanna show somebody how good my setup looks I show 'em Up.
