King of the Kongo came out in the Fall of 1929 and was a part-talking sound-on-disc serial. It was supposed to be the 1st of 4 or 5 talkie serials from Mascot for the 1929-30 season, but no more followed. I never knew till recently that after King of the Kongo, Nat Levine started another company called Aristocrat Pictures. The first of four features that were supposed to be released by the new company was "Clancy in Wall Street", an all-talking 8 reeler produced by Edward Small. Clancy was released in March of 1930, but no more followed from Aristocrat. It must not have done very well, because Levine went back to making his serials. The Lone Defender came out in Sept 1930 - this time it was sound-on-film. You can see a bunch of ads and articles on Clancy from the film trades here: http://lantern.mediahist.org/?utf8=%E2%9C%93&utf8=%E2%9C%93&per_page=100&range%5Byear%5D%5Bbegin%5D=1930&range%5Byear%5D%5Bend%5D=1952&sort=score+desc%2C+date-start+desc%2C+title+asc&q=%22clancy+in+wall+street%22+ Clancy is available to download and watch on Archive.org here: https://archive.org/details/Clancy_in_Wall_Street |
