I'm VERY excited about this new film, and hopeful that Mr. Panzer will see it and learn who Hal Blaine is.

One reason I don't listen to LA rock is that except for Randy Newman and Ry Cooder, it all sounds similar, and now I know why. They're all white folks under the influence of surf music.

Hal Blaine was definitely a better drummer than Bob Lippert.

A least some of these people also played on L.A. R&B and soul music of the period so I don't think they were just influenced by surf music. Some of them had a little soul too.

Both Carol Kaye and Tommy Tedesco also played jazz and appeared from time to time in L.A. clubs. Maybe, Morty saw them.

Morty saw them.

Morty still has his ticket stub from Beethoven's farewell tour.

Had this on KCET (which used to be PBS, but I don't think it is anymore) yesterday & today.

Fascinating film. Didn't realize it centered so much on guitarist Tommy Tedesco (the film was produced by his son). Jazzy & I both remember him from a regular column he used to write, several decades ago, for a guitar magazine.

I've posted this link before, but it merits a return visit. Tommy Tedesco as Tommy Marinucci playing & singing his own composition, "Skateboard Angel":
