Here's a example of a kind of list I see all the time: http://my.xfinity.com/slideshow/entertainment-top20actionstars/ I wonder if the people who put these lists together are so stupid as to not understand the meaning of the phrase "of all time". How can you have a list of the greatest action stars of all time and not include Douglas Fairbanks and Errol Flynn? Certainly these two and probably a few more candidates from earlier times deserve a place on such a list ahead of at least half the people on the existing list. Most of these lists seem to think that movies began somewhere around 1970 or so. |

It's not stupidity, it's ignorance. These list makers are barely out of college and don't know anything yet. The people who write about food for the NYT are just as clueless.

Its opinion - the person that compiled that list went with personal choices. On the same subject, I find the Wolfman better then the Wolf Man. While I acknowledge the historical value of the original, for me, the remake is more entertaining. |

I'm unable to compare the two as I've never been to Burger King! |

Of course, it's opinion, but there is informed opinion and uninformed opinion. When claims are made about being "of all time" then you are obligated to include the full time span of the subject at hand. Most of these movie lists consistently ignore the first 50-60 years of film. That is either ignorance or a deliberate exclusion of a large chunk of history. I see the same in other lists that purport to name the greatest or most important cars, airplanes, art, whatever of all time and then ignore large swaths of history. Would comparing McDonald's to Wimpy's work for you? |

If there is anything in the world worse than Wimpy's, I don't want to know about it. |

They're writing for their audience. A "top ten action heroes" list of movie action stars that was made up of Yakima Canutt, Doug Fairbanks, Richard Talmadge, Errol Flynn, and guys like that would go right into the DELETE file, never to be heard of again. Rule of thumb: Include one "oldie" to make people think you know what you're talking about, and include all the rest people everybody (or your audience) knows. |

All I got to say is that Arnold is starting to look a trifle old. And since he is only a couple of years older than I, the whole subject is becoming a bit worrisome. |

All I have to say about this particular list is that Angelina Jolie is on it. This is the lady who had both of her breasts chopped off because she MIGHT get cancer someday. Now would any action hero do that? Just a simple question. |

Well, the Amazons supposedly removed one to prevent it getting in the way of pulling back a bow but that is all mythology. |

If I were to compile the list of the best films, you will find a mixture of both the old and new. Those from Gone With the Wind and Psycho to There Will be Blood and Lord of the Rings. By the way, I've never been to Wimpy either. McDonalds all the way, mostly for their salads!

Mr P, be honest, we all know you saw INTOLERANCE, first run, in a little Nickelodeon down South. |

No, it was Clinton, New York, in 1962, but that was still pretty early as film buffism goes. D. W. Griffith wasn't exactly a household name then. I played a small part in gaining him some recognition, and hope I can do that one more time at least. He's better known today if only as a target for race-baiting. |
