As of now it's $12.98 from Amazon, so I ordered.

I've never seen the serial before.

After seeing chapter one of the new release, I offer the following:

I didn't see any Horne influence other than some severe undercranking.

How did Veda Ann Borg, the original ha-cha girl get into this?

Good print, but the original end Columbia credit was replaced by a new one with "a Sony Pictures company" or something-or-other mentioned (not Screen Gems, as Gravy suggested, but still absolutely disgraceful; nevertheless I guess we have to roll with it.)

I gather, based on earlier comments, that the serial will seriously go down-hill in the next few chapters.

I'm hopeful, but consider me sufficiently warned.

It's not so much it goes down hill, Mr Hale, as it goes sideways and not in a wacky way. Many cliffhangers are repetitive and dull, but I still find some charm with this serial.

My copy finally arrived today and I've just sampled it. A significant upgrade, to be sure! Chapter One looks a tad contrasty and just a wee bit murky, and the master shows a little more grain due to sharpening, but I can live with that. The crisper sound helps, too. It's amazing that a recent release mastered from 35mm elements escaped us all until just now.

The Horne touches are there, all right. Everybody overacts and rushes about. You don't have the full-out, fever-pitched lunacy of The Green Archer or The Iron Claw, but The Shadow is unmistakably a Horne serial. Forty-some years after I first saw it, I still have a love-hate relationship with the thing. But I'm delighted to have a professional-looking DVD of it at last.

I can't believe it flew under the radar, either, but a shout out to Tarzan for pointing it out. I just don't get why I can't get it on Amazon North for a reasonable price, like you fellers. The cheapest third party seller is over $70!

Mill Creek told me that it was a special project and not sold from their own website so they did not promote it. Obviously, Amazon didn't know how to promote it - you'd think they'd have recommended it to us, since we've bought serials before. An odd, odd release.

Definitely, LG. Mill Creek could have at least sent out an email to their subscribers, one must assume they are making some profit on each sale or why bother?

You can get it from Amazon south inc shipping for 20 or so dollars

Thanks, guess that's the best we'll get. $25 is better than $80 on Amazon North.
