I'm with ya, and I'm all for supporting legitimate serial releases, just hate getting screwed for being a few miles North of the 49th Parallel. |

Now if we could only get good prints of THE IRON CLAW, THE SPIDER RETURNS, and BRICK BRADFORD. |

Ran Chapter Four, and it has several of my favorite remembered moments: -- Bad guys beating up the Shadow, only to find it's one of their own guys. Almost a Three Stooges gag, right down to the groggy punchline ("I had him right where I wanted him, then everything went black!"). -- The bad guys' car ramming a "drive safely" billboard -- The cigarette lighter with the little tiny handgun inside -- Shadow, trapped in the gloriously silly vibrating room, is sufficiently annoyed to shoot the Black Tiger's loudspeaker Also some more Traveltalks, combining serious fascination with occasionally jaw-dropping narration. Is it just me, or is the title "Red Men on Parade" damn hilarious? |

Iron Claw and Spider Returns, definitely, but Brick Bradford? Not for me. I can't get too excited by the idea of watching a 2K transfer of Kane Richmond and his castmates walking from A to B and back again while Lee Zahler music drones on. It's not like I've never seen Iverson's Ranch or the Alabama Hills in high resolution. |

I enjoyed The Shadow, if only because I now understand 10+ years of jokes about falling ceilings, flashing eyes & smoke, and Horne touches. I don't think I'll be rushing to revisit it, but overall I found it pleasant entertainment, in which all concerned seemed to be enjoying themselves, and which seemed to have enough action to satisfy the young tots out there in the dark. Marvelous that the Shadow can get up from yet another building collapse and still fight off 4 villains, Jack Holt-style. And as everyone has remarked, a nice print (except for that danged substituted logo at the end). |

Looking forward to checking out the new release of this once I finish TRAIL OF THE OCTOPUS, which is a solid silent serial. Say that three times fast. |

Bats did you get Trail of the Octopus from the Squadron? They offer it as a streaming serial via Amazon and I may go with that. The few minutes I saw of it in the preview was really good. As for the Mill Creek Shadow-- I got my copy, nice print-- a big improvement from the bootleg I had. Nice contrast, solid sound. Makes this one a winner even if the serial itself has all the weaknesses already cited. Jory is good, I'm digging it. |

Yes, I did, Andy. I was very happy with the quality and TotO is a fun and exciting silent serial. Definitely recommend. |

I spotted this today at my local Walmart. Millcreek bundled both the Shadow serial and the Batman serials. They're asking $9.96, if I didn't already have them I would have snatched it up. Certainly a bargain in my book! Plus another opportunity for someone to grab the Shadow serial. Here is the detail at Millcreek's website. http://www.millcreekent.com/superhero-origins-three-classic-serials.html

Nice package deal for sure, Ape Man. I, too, have all three serials, but would be tempted to pick up a copy, just to support the release and give as a gift. |

The original source material for Restored Serials copy of The Shadow was Orsak, because they got their print from me. The Shadow is a tough character to get "right" because he's so many things to so many fans-- I personally like The Shadow who is an almost supernatural being as he's portrayed in the first year or so of the pulps. The Radio Shadow is a different animal but I like those too. Any real fan knows Lamont Cranston isn't The Shadow-- Kent Allard is and Cranston is only a disguise he uses on occasion. The Columbia Serial is still one I like, cheats and all. The costume is pretty solid, and I read that publishers Street and Smith caught wind that Jory was using a revolver and alerted Columbia that The Shadow uses his trusty twin .45's to which they responded they'd correct that and seldom did. I think he's using an automatic in Chapter 3 but then he's back to the six shooter shortly after that. Jory makes a credible Shadow but he uses his fists far too much and the stuntman is either wearing no socks or white socks and that looks pretty ridiculous when The Shadow is jumping down from a window or climbing up a wall. Still, I don't hate it and I'll take it over a lot of other serials while completely understanding the criticism of it. |
