I'm assuming Gravy has either announced it and I missed it or it's about to be told-- VCI is restoring a copy of Mr M and they put a preview up that really looks good, I'm excited for this one even though I know it's not the best serial I've got a lousy bootleg of this one.

That one seemed kind of slow to me, but it had a creepy side to it. At least that's how I remember it.

Just looked at the teaser VCI posted to YouTube. I'm not impressed. It's extremely murky, even allowing for the fact that they used a night scene. I'm not sure it'll be that much of an improvement over the bootleg I've got. If MR. M was a serial I cared about, I might go for any upgrade, but I figure I have maybe one more viewing of it in me, in which case the bootleg is good enough.

I had the same thought that Riddle Rider had about showing night scenes for their preview. If they want to show off their product, it should have been a day scene so we would have had a better idea of what their print is like.
One of my friends told me that MMM is actually a pretty good serial, and when I got it, I had to agree. I am a sucker for the post-1940 Universals, with their mood and unusual settings.

Pa,
Our buddy Rob Mohr aka Prince Barin released 'The Mysterious Mr. M." a couple of years ago when he was still running his Hermitage Hills Video. His print is pretty good, so I doubt if I'll buy VCI's.

I have the Prince Barin serial release and I enjoyed it very much. Remains to be seen what the VCI will bring to the table. I find these late-period Universal serials (the non-westerns) to be interesting and fun in a noirish kinda way.

I thought I was the only one who liked the later Universals. THE GREAT ALASKAN MYSTERY is still one of my favorite serials.

I saw the clip on VCI's youtube channel, it does look better than VCI's VHS release of the serial. I also liked both Great Alaskan Mystery and The Master Key.

I'm quite happy with Prince Barin's release of this serial, just rewatched it a few months ago and it looks quite good. And I enjoyed the serial itself, too.

If the VCI release gets amazing reviews for quality, I'll put it on my "may upgrade" list.

I have the Prince Barin version too, but have long wondered why no one's taken it upon themselves to upgrade Alaskan Mystery onto DVD. It's a much better serial than many that have received upgrades.

Just finished ALASKAN MYSTERY and I'm with Chandu-- it's a solid serial.
I ordered Winners of the West and Mr M from VCI's sale this weekend. I'll let you know how M looks.

Mr M looks pretty good- it's a little soft but it has nice blacks and grays which is always a plus in my book. Loaded with Universal B-Players I liked the first chapter well enough to add this to the rotation.
