Walter Pidgeon runs a British Rubber plantation in the African jungle when Richard Carlson is sent in for a four year stint as one of his managers. Pidgeon is on his last nerve in this jungle climate and Carlson is bright eyed and bushy tailed. Frank Morgan is the drunken doctor who tries to hold things together and Hedy Lamarr is exactly the kind of jungle girl WWII audiences thought inhabited the Congo creating a love triangle when she starts playing some games. Hedy Lamarr is supposed to be African but she's about as African as I am.

I liked it a lot-- it was a fun little programmer (although with this cast it was probably an A Picture) with some good performances. A nice way to spend 90 minutes or so and a neat little diversion from the day.

Thousand Dollar Dialogue (I'm not as rich as Gravy)

A slightly foppish Bramwell Fletcher: The natives have been looking at me lately, in a queer sort of way.

Pidgeon: Maybe they're wondering how you can walk without a spine.

"I am TONDELAYO!"

Fantastic camp classic, as I recall from 40 years ago, with lots of heavy breathing and everyone drinking gallons of "kwe-NEEN" to ward off the effects of malaria and Hedy.

I actually bought a copy of this a few months ago, but haven't watched it yet. You have inspired me to buy a large gin bottle and some Schweppes ("contains quinine"), and dive in.

That would be the perfect way to watch this!
