Winter storm warning issued for Detroit
Associated Press

DETROIT (AP) -
Forecasts call for 4 to 9 inches of snow to fall on Detroit before the Super Bowl on Sunday.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning on Saturday. About 250 snowplows and hundreds of shovel-toting volunteers were on standby to ensure that football fans can get to the Pittsburgh-Seattle game at Ford Field.

"We're not worried," said Ron Brundidge, head of the city department of public works street maintenance division. "One thing that puts us at ease is the fact that we've been planning for this for so long."

The NFL, Super Bowl Host Committee and city crews have been preparing for a possible Super Bowl snowstorm for more than a year. Detroit residents have basked in unseasonably warm weather the past few days, with temperatures in the 40s.

The National Weather Service said a mixture of rain and snow would turn to snow. Forecasters expect wind up to 29 miles per hour, with the snow ending about midday Sunday. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. EST.

Brundidge said crews planned to salt major roads before the snow sticks. After it accumulates, they will plow and salt roads. The crews will concentrate on roads leading to downtown and the downtown area.

The Board Idiot

WOW! It actually snows in Detroit, who would have thought. It must be cold, I wonder how the players and fans will be able to handle 4ish hours of that stuff in the Super Bowl. The only problem will be people from the warm weather places freaking out about this. I wonder how many accidents will have cars with "Florida" and "Texas" and so on license plates.

Oh wait, they play INSIDE! The weather won't be a big deal.

I like how it said "basking in unseasonably warm weather" "with temperatures in the 40s", I wonder how San Diego, Miami, Houston and so on and so forth feel about that.

It was supposed to be good warm weather. Then it got rainy yesterday and today. Looks like rain turned into snow and now it'll be a cold superbowl.
