NBA Development League expands

Associated Press

4/6/2006 3:30:07 PM

NEW YORK (AP) - The NBA Development League added four expansion teams Thursday from the Continental Basketball Association.

The teams are in Bismarck, N.D., Boise, Idaho, Broomfield, Colo., and Sioux Falls, S.D. The four, along with the previously announced expansion Bakersfield Jam, join the Albuquerque Thunderbirds, Arkansas RimRockers, Austin Toros, Fayetteville Patriots, Florida Flame, Fort Worth Flyers, Roanoke Dazzle and Tulsa 66ers.

"Our minor league has a proven track record of developing talent both on and off the court, with more than 100 players, coaches, referees, athletic trainers and front-office personnel moving to NBA teams or the league office, and we look for that trend to continue," NBA commissioner David Stern said.

So far this season, 29 players from 19 NBA teams have been assigned to D-League affiliates. There have also been 15 call-ups from the D-League to the NBA.
