The Minnesota Swarm, the professional lacrosse team owned by the Minnesota Wild, expects 2008 to be its best season yet, despite a tumultuous offseason.

The team, which opens its fourth season in the National Lacrosse League in Toronto today, made great strides last year as ticket sales and sponsorship revenue grew. But the momentum came to a halt in October, when the NLL canceled the 2008 season due to a labor dispute.

Eight days later, though, the league and its players reached a seven-year collective-bargaining agreement to save the season.

"Last year we saw such a tremendous push toward the positive that we were really disappointed with the cancellation of the season," said Tom Garrity, vice president of business operations. "This is going to be by far the best year we've had."
