The Yanks are coming!

From arenafootball2:

The arenafootball2 league (af2) and Network Foundation Technologies (NFT) are pleased to announce a partnership that will create a new, FREE online network to provide the league’s passionate fan base an opportunity to view the af2’s 2008 season live over the Internet. Thanks to the power of NFT’s patented online broadcasting technology, fans across the globe will now be able to bring all the action of af2 football right to their home computer or laptop on a “Free-for-View” basis.

“Broadcasting our content online through NFT provides an effective way for the league to reach our loyal fans while extending the af2 brand,” af2 President Jerry Kurz said. “NFT’s previous success with other sporting league customers has paved the way for the af2 to create an ideal partnership that benefits everyone.”

"We are pleased to partner with the af2 to bring their 2008 season to fans nationwide,” said Marcus Morton, president of NFT. “Our technology is a great way for af2 and other sporting event content providers to expand their fan base.”

:w00t: Now that is cool. B) I'm glad one minor league will give me games for me. Heck, I'd be happy with an ad-supported streaming. You know, have the video player with non-intrusive, non-annoying ads next to it or something. But really, to spend like $7 per game to watch it through someone like B2, that's not my idea of watching a game.

The Board Idiot

That is pretty cool...and reminds me to sign up for my free streaming men's college basketball tournament games...which will kill my bandwidth. I'd imagine there'd have to be some sort of ad to pay for it, maybe at the bottom or off to the side.

I agree that more minor leagues should do something like this as well, even if they had to do blackout regions for some games (like the college basketball tournament does), it's still something the leagues should look into doing soon.

For anyone that's interested, the af2 season begins tonight, and all games will be broadcast for free over the internet using the NiFTy TV player, downloadable at niftytv.com. The download is 4.13 megabytes.

The only catch is that you need to register the player, but it is free, so I can't say I really care.
