Philly to Host ArenaBowl?; Soul Want Championship Game

The ownership group of the Soul has talked about bringing a championship to Philadelphia ever since the first padded wall went up at the Wachovia Center.

As the Soul rolled on Saturday to a fifth consecutive win, a new option emerged that could bring a championship to Philadelphia even if the Soul stumbles.

The Soul will make a proposal to the league to host the ArenaBowl championship game in 2009, the Daily News has learned. The 2008 title game will be held in New Orleans on July 27.

"New Orleans [does] a fantastic job," team president Ron Jaworski said. "But it's got to be moved around, that's the key. The league needs to get into a big, strong metropolitan area - a major city - like Philadelphia. We're going to make a strong pitch. We would love to have it here. We really would."
