The Yanks are coming!

Tiger Woods had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday to repair cartilage damange, his second operation in five years on the same knee. He is expected to miss at least a month while he recovers.

The surgery, announced on his Web site, came two days after Woods finished three shots behind Trevor Immelman in the Masters. He likely will miss The Players Championship, but should return in time to play the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.

"I made the decision to deal with the pain and schedule the surgery for after the Masters," Woods said. "The upside is that I have been through this process before and know how to handle it. I look forward to working through the rehabilitation process and getting back to action as quickly as I can."

The surgery was performed in Park City, Utah, by Thomas Rosenberg, who also operated on Woods' left knee in December 2002. Woods also had surgery in 1994 on his left knee to remove a benign tumor.

Swing coach Hank Haney told the AP in phone interview he knew Woods' knee was bothering him, but was not aware of the surgery until Woods called him.

"He's been having a lot of trouble," Haney said. "He doesn't talk about stuff like that. He doesn't want to use excuses, you know? I don't think it affected his play. It affected his practice a little bit. He hit 14 greens in regulation on Sunday. Hard to say it was the knee."

You know, they may deny that the knee issue caused him to play poorly, but I do think it affected him a little, perhaps even enough to lose the Masters. I mean, despite having supposedly healed, Tom Brady didn't seem quite as mobile in the Super Bowl with that ankle issue, nor did he do well when it was freshly injured against the Chargers.

Not to say that Tiger would have won had he not been injured, but it certainly could have affected him.

Tiger probably wouldn't use it as an excuse but I think it might've affected his performance...did it cost him the Masters? Well he barely lost...so perhaps if he was healthy...that he could have won. Who knows, that's all ifs and buts.

The Board Idiot

Well, when you consider this part...

"Tiger has been experiencing pain in his knee since the middle of last year, and when he had it looked at by his doctors, arthoscopic surgery was recommended," said Mark Steinberg, Woods' agent at IMG. "Tiger has played through the pain in the past, but knew it would be better for him to have the procedure done as early as possible."

and that he had a 7 tournament winning streak during that, I doubt the pain affected him that much. It also explains the big chunk of time off in his schedule. ;)

The Yanks are coming!

Tiger Woods entered the room with a slight limp and unwavering determination to play the U.S. Open.

"The knee's doing better," said Woods, who had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee April 15. "The rehab is boring. It gets really old riding that bike, man. But everything's on schedule. Just been training and trying to get this thing organized for the Open, and it's right on schedule for that."

Woods spoke Tuesday at Congressional Country Club. The second annual edition of Woods' own PGA Tour event, the AT&T National, returns to Congressional in July.

The U.S. Open will be at Torrey Pines in San Diego on June 12-15, a major that could prove a bit dicey for the world's No. 1 player following a two-month layoff.

Woods had hoped to fine-tune his game this week at the Memorial, but he withdrew and has no plans to play in next week's Stanford St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tenn.

"I wasn't ready," Woods said. "I started my practice basically just recently. So going to Memorial that rusty, it wouldn't have made any sense. I wasn't sharp enough. I didn't hit all my shots I needed to hit yet at home and make sure everything is organized. ... The whole idea is to be ready for the U.S. Open."

So he ends his season with more surgery.
Sucks...but hey, it's for the better and at least he won the US Open :)
