SOURCES: ARGOS TO BRING VANDERJAGT BACK; DEAL PREFONTAINE

One of the most accurate kickers in the history of the National Football League appears to be headed back to the CFL.

According to sources, the Toronto Argonauts are expected to announce the return of Mike Vanderjagt to handle their kicking duties. Vanderjagt helped the Argos capture the Grey Cup twice in 1996 and 1997 before heading to the NFL.

The Oakville, Ontario native then signed with the Indianapolis Colts following the '97 season and remained with the club until 2006 when he signed as a free agent with the Dallas Cowboys.

In 135 career games in the NFL, Vanderjagt went 230-for-266 in field goals attempts, a 86.4% success rate that made him the most accurate kicker in league history.

Vanderjagt became the first kicker in NFL history to register a perfect season without missing a single field goal attempt or extra point convert in 2003. He nailed all 37 field goal attempts and 46 converts during the regular season then during the playoffs he was successful on three field goals and 12 converts.

To clear room, the club announced on Saturday it had dealt Noel Prefontaine to the Edmonton Eskimos. In return, the Agros received a first round draft pick in the 2009 CFL Canadian Draft and a conditional pick in the 2010 Canadian Draft.

Prefontaine, who joined the Argonauts as Vanderjagt's replacement in 1998 had been with the club for the last nine seasons.

For his career in the CFL, Prefontaine is 195-of-282 career field goals (69.1 per cent). This season, Prefontaine connected on 26-of-39 field goals (66.7 per cent).

The Yanks are coming!

You know, ever since the Colts dumped him in favor of Vinatieri, I wondered where he'd turn up. Dallas didn't work out. But he wasn't so bad that he was just going to stop playing. In fact, besides Vinatieri, he was one of the best kickers in the league. I think the CFL is a good move for him, since it doesn't seem like he's wanted in the NFL.
