The Toronto Argonauts want to know what their fans think of potentially moving from the Rogers Centre to BMO Field, the home of Major League Soccer's Toronto FC.

And what the fans say as part of a survey on ticket buyers could go a long way toward influencing whether the Argos move beyond preliminary talks with the city of Toronto about becoming a tenant at the two-year-old stadium.

"It's an exploration to see if our fans and our future fans want us in that stadium," Argos co-owner David Cynamon said. "It needs to grow [BMO Field has only 20,000 seats], so that's a project in itself. But first things first, let's make sure our fans want to move before we even talk about moving."

The Argos believe they could increase their season-ticket base by at least 3,000 (from about 13,500) by moving to BMO field. And their interest has been piqued of late by buzz that the city, which owns the stadium, and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, which operates it, have discussed adding 10,000 additional seats to accommodate demand for Toronto FC.

The soccer club, which is owned by MLSE, has sold out every game in its existence and has thousands on a waiting list for season tickets.

Who would pay for the stadium expansion is just one of the many issues that would have to be resolved before the Argos could call BMO home. BMO field can't accommodate the length of a CFL field, so it would require a major reconfiguration at one end of the field, at the very least.

And with the city committed to BMO Field as a soccer complex, it considers some potential changes "non-negotiable."
