The Houston Texans' game against the Baltimore Ravens was moved to Monday night at 8:30 p.m. EDT because of Hurricane Ike.

The game was originally scheduled for 4:15 p.m. EDT Sunday.

Hurricane Ike was headed toward the Texas coast as a category 3 storm on Thursday. It was expected to make landfall between Houston and Corpus Christi sometime early Saturday morning.

The game will be broadcast on CBS stations in Houston, Baltimore and Washington as well as several smaller secondary markets.

This isn't the first time a game time has been changed because of an impending hurricane. In 2004, a game in Miami between the Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers was moved from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. to allow Hurricane Jeanne to pass through the area.

Hurricane Ike, which swept through Galveston and Houston overnight, caused substantial damage to Reliant Stadium, so the Texans game against the Baltimore Ravens will not be played Monday night there.

The home opener, originally scheduled for Sunday, had been pushed to Monday night because of the storm.

"The facility will not be usable," Shey Guinn, president of SMG, the company that manages Reliant Park, told the Houston Chronicle.

The Yanks are coming!

The NFL has announced changes to its season schedule to accommodate the postponed Ravens-Texans game.

The Week 2 Ravens-Texans game will be moved to November 9 when the Ravens were supposed to have a bye. The Bengals-Texans game will be moved to October 26 when both of those teams were supposed to have a bye.

Week 2 will serve as the bye week for both the Ravens and the Texans, and November 9 will be the Bengals' new bye week.

Houston Texans owner Bob McNair has discussed the possibility of his team playing at Rice Stadium if repairs to Reliant Stadium from Hurricane Ike can't be made in time for the Texans' first home game on Oct. 5.

Texans owner Bob McNair said he's optimistic that the damage to Reliant Stadium, pictured in this aerial view Saturday, is confined to its roof.

The stadium's retractable roof lost five pieces in the storm, and officials said large pieces of debris had fallen into the stadium.

Though he has discussed playing at Rice, which is four miles from Reliant, McNair is "optimistic" that repairs can be made in time for Houston to play at home against the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 5.

"We would have to talk to them at Rice, but certainly it's a large enough stadium that it is a possibility," McNair said Tuesday.

Rice Stadium holds 47,000 in its current configuration, but the tarps could be moved off the end zone seating to expand the capacity to 70,000. It was opened in 1950 and hosted the Super Bowl in 1974.
